What fun! Here today 34 degrees, overcast, calm with 4 inches fresh snow on the lot. I took the wild birds some seed and come play on the computer.
Hmmmm........ lots of Red-winged Blackbirds out there.

We're expecting more frigid temps and sub zero wind chills for the next few days, so our Spring is being postponed a bit. March arrived like a lamb, so I'll expect a pretty rowdy exit.

I saw a bird flying by the window and thought at first it may be a cardinal then I looked again and thought maybe an oriole because it appeared more orange. Anyway, they both mean winter has run its course.

martywny, you don’t have cardinals year around? They are in our area all year long. And among the first at the bird buffet.

you don’t have cardinals year around? I see them year 'round but not as frequently. Maybe the neighbors have a better buffet than what I put out.

I'm seeing the rabbits more, they must be out hunting for mates. The nuisance birds, starlings, seem to have moved on. Now there are juncos, cardinals, downy woodpecker, blue jay and an occasional dove. I need to get a new feeder, the wind blew it down and it broke into a bunch of pieces.

Hubby told me tonight "I know it's spring when I hear you say 'oh my god what have I done?' "
That was me tonight. I spent 5 hours cleaning up perennial beds today. Before I could get to a hot shower I was shuffling and moaning omg what have I done? Felt so good!!!!
(we hit 61º today!)

desertwoman, That's how I felt after crawling around the floor for 5 hours yesterday putting down flooring. DH said, let's quit for today. I agreed. I expected to feel stiff and sore this morning but don't, I think I've slowly gotten back into shape with all the bending and stretching during the painting marathon. 61° is far far away for us!

I see that the little solar lights along our front walk are now getting enough sunlight that they offer a glow of light long into the night. They have been under snow for a long time.
Just another sign of spring.

The peepers have been singing their chorus the last few nights.
Temps in the 50s, heat off, windows open tonight.

Spotted a Robin a couple days ago Now that's something I've seen here lately, lots of robins over the past week. More cardinals plus our standard crew of woodpeckers.

That big flock of Red-winged Blackbirds has moved on. Today coming to the feeder, Magpie and some E Sparrows. The Juncos have moved on. We used to get a bunch of House Finches, but the finches are MIA.

My golf/garden cart is out and running. Tires needed some air added, but it started just fine. That golf cart was the best $1200 we have spent.

Saw the first lightning-bugs (fireflies) of the Spring tonight. A bit earlier than usual, but that's okay. On two occasions over the years, we've witnessed great hordes of them blinking in unison for several hours, as sometimes happens in this region. A sight to behold.
