Today I'll be scouting for squash bugs. Found one in the house by the back door. Must have hitchhiked in. Do you have Zucchini in your fridge? Maybe he was heading there... - Today I'm going to bunny fence the new Zinnia bed in back. I covered it with tulle overnight as a precaution. - Fill extra green trash bin for tomorrow pick-up - Harvest Nigella seed, maybe to use as a cover crop.

I've already done some unplanned work in front, weeding, trimming - getting ready for the workers, and deciding what I want them to do today.
After they leave: - start work on planning the final location, and installing the front metal, oval prefab bed. 1 foot tall. I am thinking about painting it dark purple, but not today.

After not doing much in the garden the past couple days, I'm going to keep the list for today short, assuming it stays cool.
-fill large 95 gallon can (an extra one) with already pulled weeds/trimmings for next Tues. pick-up -more weeding near peach tree
- ...and maybe more weeding near the new Zinnia bed in front.

gianna, No zucchini in fridge and none in the garden!!! To me it's a poor use of valuable garden real estate!

The amazing woman who helped me out 10 days ago, returned for round 2 at the house in town. This time I worked along with her- she put in 5 hours and I put in about 3 hours. I had her do the heavier shovel work and I respected my recovering back by doing easier work- pruned rose bushes, cut back silver lace vine, honeysuckle and ivy and dead headed some flowers. Oh to be 30 again (and I don't say that very often) - her stamina, as the day heated up, was remarkable. She seemed unfazed by the heat. I took 2 breaks to lie on the floor under a ceiling fan. But we got a lot done and those gardens are looking cared for again.

No zucchini in fridge and none in the garden!!! To me it's a poor use of valuable garden real estate! I still plant it, but very late this year. The first early round of seedlings I never got planted out. This last batch I put out this past week. Some years I don't grow it, but most years I do. I give a lot away, and dehydrate and freeze some. Sometimes it doesn't get used. But I'm part Italian so I guess I feel obligated, lol. Today's garden jobs: -water the blueberries -weed in the back beds -gather tomatoes, tomatillos, and yellow peaches to fill the dehydrator. Not sure there are enough for a full load.

My main job for today was to start early and fill the dehydrator - and I did that so it could be monitored through out the day. Still lots of time in the day. Maybe move up some seedlings. Or maybe just plant another round of sunflowers. Jury is still out.

Monday morning, still nice and cool outside. Jobs for the day are: - water blueberries - done - drag small limbs to trash can area - done - pack the dehydrated peaches - done - get outside early and stay hydrated - done edit: Those were not difficult jobs, but it was very pleasant to get out there early, and get the day moving. And I was still able to go early to the grocery afterwards. If it cools later, there are more weeding and trimming jobs to do. My own green can is very full, but often the neighbor across the way does not fill his, and I top his off too. I give him lots of good fruits/veg in return. But I wait till after he puts out his can (that will be later today) for morning pickup before topping off his. I already have 2 regular cans full waiting, if there is room.

Tuesday morning, trash pickup day.I topped off the neighbors green bin - only could fit one regular trash can into it. And then I did some trimming on an orange tree so the workers today can get under it more easily.
My one job remaining today is to pull the weeds and trim what is necessary under the yellow peach tree. It's only 70 now, just after 8am, and already heading higher fast. After my cocoa break I should get right back out there.

For tomorrow morning (Wed):
-rake beneath the yellow peach where I weeded today - done -lay out soaker hose beneath part of peach tree, and water - done -cover soaker hose and adjacent area with mulch, and maybe some cardboard. - not yet done, I want to wait to make sure the water is absorbing. This area is bone dry on the surface. There is no rush.
Get out there early! - I was out there early and it was very, very pleasant.
Later today: - pick tomatoes and tomatillos for dehydrating - fill dehydrator - uncover the bed prepped for cauliflower young plants, and maybe plant.
