More work in the front today - the rattler, though he left immediately and was more fearful than I was, slowed things down yesterday. - finish planting Zinnias in both beds. - finish filling, and take the green can to the street and if time and energy permit, clip out more 'past prime stuff' in the front beds.

Hired someone to do some clean up at the house in town, so we met her there to point out what I want done. It just got away from me and with my back still recovering, it would be a while before I can get to it. Have to admit, it's a nice treat to have someone doing the work, but also have to admit it makes me feel like an old woman. Not ready for that.

Hired someone to do some clean up at the house in town, You inspired me. I prefer to do the work myself, but this year after the rains and all the growth, there is more in the front yard than this old girl wants to do. I'd rather play with seedlings and sniff posies. So I just hired the guys I've hired on and off over the years for weed abatement. They are just going to trim the Lantana, etc, that is creeping out onto the street. And whatever else I decide to have them do. It feels so decadent, lol. They work across the street on Tuesday anyway, and they'll just put in about 30 minutes here per week till whenever the job is is finished. In the meantime today, I was working in the side yard, organizing seedlings and containers and trays and soil, and watering what needed it. And later today, I'd like to do more in that area.

You inspired me. I prefer to do the work myself, I know- not only for the exercise, which I love, but (I hope I don't sound too arrogant) no one has ever done as good a job as me. the few times I've tried. Until now. This young woman is amazing.

I know- not only for the exercise, which I love, but (I hope I don't sound too arrogant) no one has ever done as good a job as me. I totally understand and agree. I'm glad you found a good person. My guys, a father and son, are fast, efficient workers, but lack finesse. But that's OK. Yesterday afternoon, they did what I wanted and will be back next week for more - and my list for them grows. Today's jobs for me : -clearing the dead flowers from the last bed in front for future snapdragons in a month. Maybe -check soaker hose and bunny fence, and repair if necessary -move up tiny snapdragon seedlings -stay hydrated.

I got good work done yesterday, especially working in the very front bed. Got much of surrounding area and half the bed done. I'd like to finish that today... before it gets too warm to work outside.
Today's goals: -get outside while it's still cool. It's 62* now on the way to mid 80s today. -finish clearing the front bed, almost totally. I'm Only leaving two lovely blue statice plants. -prepare an area in another bed for a few new zucchini plants. Easier to give away the fruits when they are growing in front.

I did almost nothing outside yesterday, since I got almost everything done Tuesday, and it's getting hotter and even more humid again today, so I won't be doing much. I'll go out and harvest even more eggplants today (and probably some tomatoes and cucumbers), then get all those EPs in the dehydrator, for the first time this season.

Getting out there early was really great. I got lots done, and now it's 80* and will get hotter. I felt resistance going out to work early - I do like my morning rituals - but I was able to work 2 hrs non-stop. I finished clearing the very front bed, closest to the street, and it's larger than I remember. The soaker hoses are in moderately good shape and really only need one repair. But even that isn't so bad. I hadn't done serious work in that bed since before the pandemic, so that could be 4 years. The main flower in there was scabiosa, and it was pretty. But it's not as advertised - here it is not an annual. One of the basal stems was about 2 inches across. After this bed gets re-hydrated and compost applied, I'll put a double row of Zinnias to the front, and a double row of summer snapdragons (if they survive) to the back of the bed. It's exciting to have this nice large sunny bed with good soil available again. Come winter, it will house winter snapdragons again. This will result in two adjacent beds with wall to wall snaps. When this plan works, it's very impressive.

When there are a lot of things on your to-do list, it's better to hire someone who can do it for you. This way, you can spend more time on things that matter. Also, according to www.usda.gov/peoples-garden/gardening-advice, relying on landscape experts can help you save money than DIY.

Last night I 'repaired' a leak in a soaker hose (a previous repair). It did not take. I re-re-repaired it this morning, and that also didn't take. Gotta get out the big guns and do a complete job on it. Fortunately it's on an end so it's easy to reach. So I don't have to do that right now. It's just a slight dribble now, but still too much.
Jobs for today: - get out in the garden early - spread compost over bed I'm currently working on - finish weeding the pathway in that location - an easy job. - transplant snapdragon seedlings into larger cells - maybe an inside job if it gets too warm outside

- Get outside early, ...even though I don't want to. - Plant the front bed with Zinnias. This will be the 3rd bed with mostly Zinnias. They are loving the moderate heat. - Water and fert the back beds. - Maybe plant the zucks in the back, if the seedlings are large enough.

Still all wet outside from last night's/this morning's rain. Would like to pull a few weeds and plant out okra and winter squash seedlings later.

Yesterday I finished what was listed, plus a bit more. Today I think it will be a light day outside:
- plant Zinnia seedlings in a smallish bed in the back. These are from self-saved seeds of a newish, unstable variety (Unicorn) from Floret. Just curious what they will turn out to be. Some seed heads had been bagged, some totally open pollinated. - Misc weeding in the back in and around the planted beds - up-pot the last of the original Unicorn Zinnia seeds into larger cells, now in sm. soil blocks. Might have to prepare another bed in back for them. - consider putting up some bunny fencing to protect the Rudbeckia buffet.
