Some things are UN blooming. I cut down an entire Cleome. Too big and in my way. Liatris have faded away, Garden Phlox are fading. Zinnia are going crazy. Obedience plant is just starting to bloom. Brown eye Susan keeps looking great after weeks of blooming. She will get moved in the Spring.

I need to thin out the Black Eyed Susan this year too. They have taken over a good part of the flower garden. Mumsey,it' amazing how big a Cleome will get. I had one last year that got crazy big. This years are manageable. My volunteer Sunflowers are blooming, but some of them have no petals, of very small and few petals. I wonder if the heat and drought in the beginning of summer affected the buds. Cone flowers are still showing off and the phlox are starting to fade.

Zinnias and cosmos are abundant. Joe Pye is towering and blooming with big pink flowerheads, earlier bent over with rain. Once the rain stopped and they dried a bit, they straightened right back up and were re-loaded with bees, skippers, and butterflies. That Joe Pye nectar and pollen must be tasty and nutritious.

Zinnias and cosmos are looking worn, but still blooming. Marigolds and butterfly vine are still coming on strong. Chrysanthemums are popping, ageratum is showing, and the deep vivid blue-violet of ironweed has made its appearance...and there's the pineapple sage with it's tall spires of scarlet. Bees, hummers, butterflies, and beneficials are loving it.

Marigolds are still going strong, as are zinnias. Autumn Joy sedum is showing color. Speedwell has some blooms after I cut off their tops a while back.

A few tomato flowers, broccoli has gone to seed and the bees are loving it. Four o 'clocks are putting on a show up front of the house.

The first snapdragon of the fall/winter season. Dark red. There are others with buds, but not many. This guy is precocious!
Also blooming is broccoli- bees love it. Zinnias - surprise seedlings of all flavors. Some Scabiosa and Yarrow too. And tomatoes.

The small spot of Dogfennel is swaying in the wind --- tall, red-stemmed, silvery-bloomed, and striking. It's regarded mostly as a weed, but I like a bit of it out there for showy late-fall color.

The dogwoods, redbuds, and azaleas are all singing three-part visual harmony.

Daffodils and wood hyacinths. Outside my yard, I see the forsythia gold blooming along the highway.
