My front garden area is looking so pretty right now. Not that many flowers in bloom, but just on the verge of busting out. I have 3 beds with lots of Zinnias with a few buds just starting to open, and many more on the way. And a cluster of about 10 hoity-toity sunflowers about 2 feet tall. In bloom, I've got 4 annual statice in bloom. 3 blues and 1 yellow. The Rudbeckia, Prairie Sunset (with green eye) is stealing the show with it's open flowers. This is all framed by Lantanas of egg-yolk yellow, red and white blooms.
That garden is evolving nicely. This morning in the cool of the morning sun, it struck me how nice it's become.

It's so gratifying and satisfying , isn't it? gianna, Absolutely, yes. And what really helped get it here has been hiring the guys to do much of the tedious, but necessary work, so I could concentrate on the more artistic stuff. Not that I haven't been doing my share of the grunt work - there is just more time now for the frilly bits.

Liatris is about done, garden phlox are finally in full bloom. Loves lies bleeding is drooping, looks like I might have a white one out there, need to tie it up better. Took out the 2 hanging pots of geraniums from the garden, decimated by JB's. They never grew much, can't figure out why because the very same ones from the same nursery on the deck are huge. Go figure.

heirloomfan, Love the sunflowers, what are they called? I had similar ones last year "Velvet Queen", but not quite that red!! Must have been a hybrid because volunteers have not been red at all.

My first sunflowers are about to crack open. They are about 4 feet tall, and single bloomers.
I have a few stray snapdragons blooming now. These reseeded from last years plants. Pinks, lavendar, white, and yellow. Not as dramatic as hybrids, but still very nice.
2 varieties of Rudbeckia are stealing the show.
And, ta-da, the Zinnias are beginning to come into their full glory. 3 beds in front and one in back. My favorite so far is Queeny Lemon. Such a pretty orangey-yellowish antique-y buff shade, with nice flower form. Will definitely grow these again. Today I'll probably pick the first zinnia bouquet for the house. These are the days I'm so happy to be a gardener.
