My annual flowers, gotten out late, are just coming up and getting to size. Ah, but fortunately... The perennials are putting on a show. Echinaceas, Rudbeckias, orange and white native milkweeds, spring asters...St. John's Wort is about to explode with hundreds of yellow petally powderballs, and the new Nanho Blue butterfly bush is popping. That Nanho is a compact variety, and the blooms are deep blue/purple, and I was wondering about proper long-term care of it. I understand they need to be cut back over winter, but how far back? It's shot up to about four feet tall and sure is strikingly perty in bloom.

Roses, peonies, honeysuckle, clematis, coreopsis, marigolds and zinnias. Daisies ready to explode. Pansies loving the off and on cool weather. Some unknown volunteers in my giant pot are developing large buds. On the wild side, clover and fleabane, which gives off perfume at night.

Peonies are going wild this year, roses are abundant, honeysuckle, dianthus, silver lace vine, yarrow, and continuing coral bells; and annuals- lobelia (crystal palace), marigolds, morning glories and a couple of lingering iris.

Daylilies are putting on a show. Mary Todd was the first to start the show….she is yellow, not gold ( according to my senses of color). There’s two plants that would easily divide into four plants each. I shared part one plant several years ago, but it’s ready to divide again.
I have other varieties, but I’ve forgotten the names of them…colors are blush, peach, coral. Also have one that is dark purple…ugly, it is. It gives me no joy. I need to remove it.

Peach day lilies (don't know the name; they were already here when we moved in), echinacea, lavender, delphinium and larkspur; oriental lilies-red and a butter yellow; yarrow, coral bells, hollyhocks still going strong

Garden phlox are struggling, not nearly as tall as they should be. Marigolds are starting to bloom (from direct sown seed). Day lilies, sunflowers, purple coneflower is struggling also.

Lots of daisies. They really have spread out over the years. Coneflowers, coreopsis, sweet peas, marigolds, zinnias and lots of others keep coming and going. Also have two trays filled with the flowers I started from seed. They have tired of waiting and started blooming- nicotiana, snap dragons, marigolds, ageratum, clarkia, evening stock and others . Will plant them out today.

One last Stargazer, a new purchase this year and late to be planted, is blooming now. The color is different from other stargazers…more of a dusty pink…but the intoxicating fragrance is there. Marigolds, tall garden phlox in white, pink, fluorescent pink, and one that might be called purple, but it’s not a “blue purple”. That one is going strong, while the others are mostly done blooming. If I’d put more water on them, they’d probably still be blooming. One single Coneflower is blooming and it’s being challenged by a daylily.
Wave petunias are still blooming…on the deck…in the elevated planter that surrounds our front yard light…in the hip high urn in the front of the house, and in a hanging planter that mostly rides around on the golf/garden cart.
David Austin roses are blooming. The one growing in the flower garden is doing much better than the two growing near the house. They may need to be relocated.
Dahlias are starting to bloom😁

My last orange daylily opened today- that was a 2 month run of these orange blooms- the longest run I've ever had! Echinacea, bee balm, coral bells continue. Sunflowers are now going strong. Trumpet vine. Roses. Ornamental thyme between the flagstones. Ornamental oregano. Blue Mist Spirea. Agastache. Hardy geranium (perennial). Hollyhocks and yarrow are starting their second round. Hardy plumbago going wild. Morning glories, victoria blue salvia, marigolds, lobelia (crystal palace)

I’m missing the blue salvia, big zinnias, snaps, and Verbena Imagination. Gotta make the effort next year.

Sunflowers are looking droopy, they have formed a canopy, afternoon shade for Fall broccoli and cauliflower which is good during really hot days. The gold finches visit the sunflowers constantly. Zinnias are going strong. Liatiris has fizzled. Garden Phlox still nice, but only the hot pink ones. The Hans Schubert garden phlox (light lavender) didn't even bloom this year. Next year it will go or be moved, hasn't ever looked really great. Last of day lilies have bloomed. Making plans already for next year, a couple of those will go. They take up too much real estate.

Nicotiana blooming it's heart out in the triangle by the gate where I planted it. Asters are opening up pretty little blooms and Spillanthes (AKA eye ball plant/toothache plant) has its eyes on who is coming through the gate. Daisies almost gone, but coneflower hanging in there, along with butterfly bush.
