Though a gorgeous 51ΒΊ day today, far too muddy to do anything outside. Had my weekly Facetime with sis, then brought the house to order and touched up the bathroom, swept and vacuumed the living room and entry as we were hosting the weekly neighborhood Sunday get together. A smaller group today (6) and we got quite philosophical. Love those deep conversations.

Today I got that new recliner I ordered Friday, and I was their first delivery, as they were here at 7:40 am! This is good, as it lets me do things outside, or if I need to go somewhere, instead of waiting all day, and the later deliveries are usually even later than predicted. I went up to Job Lots, to get that early Monday seniors discount, and was home well before 10 o'clock, and I'll have to put some shorts on, before going outside again. This will be the last day of this, for a while, from what I heard. I already removed the rain gauge, after getting the last little bit of rain in it! Usually, that, and all the irrigation lines have been removed by now, as it's cooler, and usually rainy enough, that I don't have to water. I set that timer to water the garlic and shallots, to soak the soil one last time, before draining the pipes going out there. The temp is supposed to go down to 32Β° tomorrow night, but who knows, with this crazy weather!

It was 'one of those days'. Thought I'd be protesting at the resort we are having to remind of their promises. Instead my computer, which has been more and more telling me 'it's time', got me exploring buying-a-new-one options. Don't ask me why that was the first thing I did while drinking my first cuppa. Voila! I found what I wanted , on sale at Best Buy (early Black Friday) and was swept away. ... $200 off! Plus they do trade ins just as Apple Store does. The kid helping me is 21 and a computer whizz. I chatted him up , swapped some stories (he's a talker!) and he ended up giving me an additional $20 on the trade-in for a total of $210. So I got my new MacBook Air for $655!! (including tax!). I am thrilled. Our good bye was that he told me he hoped he would be as "free flowing as you guys" when he got older. I supported his desire and encouraged him to follow his dreams to fly the coop, as he has been longing to do, to see the world. Setting up this new computer took longer than expected. We did the erase on my old one before leaving (after backing it up), but forgot to note the password for the back up machine. We did quite a scramble trying various things to retrieve. We had a "moment" when we both thought I had lost all my backup except for what was in the Cloud. (due to not being able to access the Time Machine back up) and would have to start a lot from scratch. I had given it up, with an "oh well". Quinn continued musing for quite a while longer, had an ah-ha moment and finally figured out how to access my back up. Whew! I'm up and running and all is good.

I turned off the water to the outside this morning, and drained the pipes, since we might be getting out first freeze of the season. And we may be getting the coldest day of the year since March, on Wednesday. It is VERY windy, with gusts to 40 mph, so all I did was bring the trash cans in, drain the pipes, and came back in! The hydroponics is doing great - not only the cuttings, but the seedlings. The cilantro, while slower than most, is larger now than most of them. The only thing I had a problem with was Thai basil - both the first and the second cutting flowered soon after putting the cuttings in the hydro. So now I'll just have to plant a few seeds, and do it that way; slower, but I'll get the plant eventually. I can't believe that the basil is still alive outside! Usually, my basil is the first thing to die out there - starts getting black spots, even before the first frost, but I think it's because of the moisture I usually have here, and in the low 40s this would happen, with all the dew. The hydroponics, with the basils and the epazote growing great, from the cuttings. by pepperhead212, on Flickr

Still picking lettuce and spinach. Even after a couple of frosts. Our weather is the new Miami of the North!

Spent the morning making hash browns from russet potatoes. All frozen and put in vacuum bags after they were frozen on trays. Then I made a pot of german potato soup with kraut, this time I added red curry seasoning, mild white miso, low sodium veggie cubes and tomato juice. It's awesome, no meat at all. I'm thinking this is something that can be pressure canned safely. Will work on it in the dead of cold Winter. Sunny and windy today. Most of the leaves have dropped. Friday I'lll be doing the last yard clean up for this year. The rain tomorrow should take care of bringing the last of the leaves down.
My appt for insurance yesterday was changed to Thursday by the agent. Didn't get flu/covid vaccines yet either. On the list for later this week.

My appt for insurance yesterday was changed to Thursday by the agent Health, nursing home or life? Glad I have the health coverage from my union. Those Medicare Advantage plans appear to take advantage of people with their approval needed for everything and their "you may qualify for...(food, rides, etc.) You also may not, or they may only give you the "bonus stuff" for the first year. They need to save money for the government and get money for themselves and it has to come from somewhere.
