Yesterday’s priority job for me was getting the stepson’s excavator back to his shop so that it could go out to a job today. Greased and fueled up I was just unhooking the trailer as it started raining. Later we made a trip to Costco before having dinner at one of sweetheart’s friends house. We then picked up two of the grandsons to spend the night and make it a little easier on gma to get the 6 year old to school today.

No rain at walk time, so headed out. When we got home I tackled the front yard, got all the leaves to the street for pick up. Drizzle started when I was half done, but kept at it. I had an old sheet out there, raking the leaves on to it, then dragging it to the street. Worked well, wet leaves don't blow away. Doesn't look like I did it now, 2 trees are still dropping leaves. Went to junk shop in search of a gait belt for step mom. I think it's a good idea since she is unsteady on her feet. A CNA who I worked with was in the store, as I was talking to the clerk asking about gait belts, this woman spoke up and offered me one from her stash at home. She saved the day! Watched "Bones" for a couple hours then went back outside and pulled out half the broccoli, it's not producing any more. Got rid of the giant Mums that were fading and the pumpkins. The tree dump is a muddy mess so will wait a few days to pull the rest of the broccoli. It's starting to look a lot like Fall. What with the burn ban, the tree dump is really full of tree debris, hard to even drive around the piles.

I haven’t even touched the leaves yet…my Nextdoor neighbor is a ‘God put it there, He can take the away.’mentality and I’m tired of cleaning up mine and then his that blow over…just waiting until they are all down. Ive been trying to start sourdough breads and bake w ancient grains blends to see if it it helps my gf daughter. Tried to make the gf starter but wasted so much of the gf flour and the month of sept trying…

I weedwacked my mint patch flat, after pulling the drip lines out, and harvesting the peppermint - it's useable frozen in Indian dishes, and a lot more is still good, while most of the spearmint has browned leaves. I made a last batch of iced tea with spearmint, but it took a lot of searching for enough good leaves. I'll vacuum seal some different sized bags of the peppermint, and freeze them all in a Ziploc.
I could grow it in the hydroponics, as it doesn't get aphids, like spearmint, but it just grows too fast, for as little as I use it.
I refilled a bunch of the jars on the shelves - those beans and grains I've been using the end of what was in many jars, just to add to some recipes. My sugar, too, and two of the flour containers. I also put those clay things I soak in water in my two brown sugar containers, to moisten them again. That stuff gets hard when I don't use it for months, and it's amazing how those things freshen the brown sugar up overnight! I used to set a piece of paper towel, wet, and squeezed as dry as possible, set on a piece of plastic in the jar, but this wastes nothing.

It was a snow day, so had to postpone feeding and tucking in the last veggie bed for the winter.
Around dinnertime I remembered I still had the last of the lettuce to harvest. So was out there in the gloaming picking leaves and pulling plants out from under the snow. . I left two to see what they'll do. But I guess my garden is officially done for the year.

You got snow! One year we got snow and the lettuce was covered when I picked it and ate it for dinner. What melted inthe garden wilted.
