After raking leaves at the neighbor's this morning, I officially have two beds covered. Of course one of those beds wasn't ready yet, so took time to do some clean up. Have so many shredded leaves that I needed to make a temporary cage out of old fence to contain them. Started cleaning the tomato bed but ran out of time. Tomorrow I need to make the final decision on kiddo's Halloween costume and do some sewing if necessary. Party is Thursday and likely no more outside work until Friday.

I harvested all of the remaining tomatoes, and cut out all the plants, giving me 4 cans of tomato vines. I also weedwacked all those dried up garlic chives flat, and I'll have a lot more of them next year, with all those seed heads! I also harvested a bunch of that Syrian Oregano, that is spreading back there every year, and it is an herb that dries well, so I always harvest some about now. Still not back 100%. This is the longest recovery I've had for a covid vax. I collected a small pile of leaves/pine needles mix and moved it to the veggie garden area. Then stopped at the compost bins and turned both bins with the pitch fork. It was so windy that I went inside and then realized I was exhausted again. At least I got a bit more done than yesterday. I guess I'm improving s-l-o-w-l-y.

I hope Mr breezy is feeling better tonight. Thanks! He's still a bit wonky, but did enjoy the homemade chicken noodle eggdrop soup I made him for dinner & did say he was feeling a little better. This was probably the worst I've seen him after a vaccination, but then he did tell me he decided to do the flu & Covid together, so that may have had something to do with it.

Life has taken another twist and turn. Brother called last night to say step mom is in hospital. She and dad had gone to appt for health insurance, brother was OK with them going on their own. When they got home, step mom fell and hit her head on van/ground. Brother got home within minutes, took her to ER. Staples in head, a long list of tests, has blood loss somewhere so they kept her overnight. She ended up having to have blood. So after dentist this morning, I'll be going to the hospital.
Got a lot of leaves shredded yesterday, another huge pile ready to vacuum up. Looks like it's not happening today. Picked a bucket of broccoli shoots.

Mumsey - oof. I went through similar things with my mom and dad. Hang tough. Seems like your brother's available to help as well, which is better than handling it alone like I did. My sisters are great, but they live in other states.

More leaves swept up. They are knee deep in the fenced in extra garden. The Sycamore leaves go in there. They take forever to breakdown, so they don't go in the vegetable garden anymore. Younger sister stopped by for a bit to pick up some papers, so we visited a while. When she left, hubby and I got the Christmas lights up on the house. It's always nice to do that in warm and windy weather, opposed to cold and windy weather. With that chore done, hubby went on his way and I swept up more leaves and added another layer to the vegetable garden beds. Sat on the deck for a little bit and enjoyed the 79 degrees.

We're still holding out on turning on the heat We've had to put it on at night a few times already. It's just too chilly in the morning, & our cockatoo isn't happy with that.

I got my hydroponics set up, with the nutrients leveled out, and added some "Karma", and some micorrhyzae powder last night. Today, I got the rooted cuttings planted - all that's left to do is plant seeds (I'm just drawing it up now). I planted all of the basils, but I won't need 2 of any of them - I'll just wait and see which grow best. I have a few new varieties of seeds, but most are tried and tested. I semi-sterilized those cuttings, before planting them, by doing a dunk in a hydrogen peroxide solution - 1 tb/a pint of water. All of the basil cuttings rooted in 7 days, the Thai basil with a little fewer roots. by pepperhead212, on Flickr The red Epazote all rooted strong, in about 15 days. by pepperhead212, on Flickr Epazote and basil cuttings, planted in the larger hydro tub. Seeds get planted later. 10-30 by pepperhead212, on Flickr The smaller hydro tub, for seeds later. by pepperhead212, on Flickr

I got almost all of the seeds planted in the hydroponics, the Russian kale, the white stem bok choy (had good success last year with this not bolting quickly), and the new Koquie bok choy, that I've only grown outside this fall. I'll see what it does inside. I planted the new Landrace Mizuna, and the standard green Mizuna. And some leaf lettuce, from seeds that I saved from that plant that went well into August, before bolting. And 3 cilantro, of 2 varieties - Burpee, and Leisure. Only one parsley - the curly (but not triple curly) variety, as the roots in the flat leaf varieties are just too massive, for this. And just the one new Persian dill - I'll be getting new seeds for the Dukat from the outside plants. And one Arugula, which I'll have to plant maybe every 3 weeks, as it grew fast, but bolted fast, so I have to just use it up fast, and pull the roots out, which I won't let get overgrown (last year was my first time with this in hydro).
Oh yeah - I almost forgot that Za'atar I planted - some other new seeds I got from trueloveseeds.com A couple other herbs I got from them I didn't try, as the plants are way to large - 3 and 5 feet tall! They are the Quillaquiña, or Bolivian Coriander, and the Huacatay, or black mint. I got seeds years ago for the Huacatay, but had no germination, so hopefully these will do better.

Didn't even try to do any garden work today. Since we were making our 2 week trip to Albuquerque I decided to give myself a complete day off from physical labor to allow myself more recovery time from this out of my ordinary response to the vax. The rest of the day, I read and dozed.

Did some cleaning yesterday as the goodies I bought for kiddo's Halloween bags were missing. Found them and the leftovers from last year's bags and all I should have to do is put them together later this morning. We were down to two costume ideas and finally decided. I'll just need to add some extra fabric to a pair of overalls and we'll be set. There was a snafu with picking up the cupcakes for the party this afternoon but another parent offered to get them which was a big relief. My main goal will be getting everything loaded and to school a little early as I'd rather have stuff counted out ahead of time in case some of the new volunteers don't show.
Advocate confirmed she would be joining kiddo's IEP meeting on Friday and wasn't at all happy that I haven't received the paperwork I should have prior. We talked about the changes we requested and she answered my questions and told me that if I'm not comfortable with how the meeting is going that I can request a continuation at a later date.
