Yesterday was full force fence straining day, except for the 2 hours that we went to our granddaughter’s volleyball game. Stained till almost dark then went for supper at a nearby pub/eatery, in our staining clothes, that her brother owns. Hopefully no one was to judge mental of our appearance. Today we should finish the last 100 feet of fence pretty easily and this project can be crossed off the list of things to do. I’ve also have a grandson coming over to dig the hole for a flagpole that has been stored, new in the box, in the shed for a couple of years. Hopefully I’ll get another project off of that long list of things to do……

Yesterday was not very productive except for the leaves I got spread in 2 of the beds. DS is using leaf sweeper today , so I'll finish during the week. Weather is supposed to be beautiful. Hubby got our boat out of the water yesterday . Winterizing it now. Today we got the patio table and chairs into the storage shed, but so far today, that's it.

DS arrived this morning. We had brunch then got busy with my to-do list. He didn't realize cutting down all those 6-7 ft grasses was such a PIA. Got 2 big trees trimmed up some, tore out a block lined bed in the front yard, tired of mowing around it. It used to have a flag pole but that broke years ago. Have to wait for rain to smooth out the soil and dig the plants that are in there, then spread some grass seed.
DS went grocery shopping the the basement, went away with quite a haul. Plus what was left from brunch. Picked broccoli shoots and sent those as well. It was a productive day!!

Well, those wet leaves did the job on letting me break up the clods. I got that 4 x 4 stirred, and it’s now home to six dozen garlic bulbils. The cap is in place so there should be no digging from the exterior of the bed.
Late afternoon was a gorgeous time to be outside.

So much for the pharmacist's thought that most people are not having as strong a reaction to this year's covid vax. It hit me about as hard as any previous year. Not quite so high a fever, but low grade fever along with lack of appetite, headache, muscle aches and fatigue. I never got out of my PJs and have slept off and on all day. Here's to a better day tomorrow.

Yesterday started out with sweetheart feeling motivated to make vegetable beef soup out of miscellaneous vegetables from the freezer and some cut up leftover roast out of the refrigerator. Added onion, carrots, celery and cabbage along with beef broth and the crockpot was full. We then returned to project fence staining. We moving along at a fairly good pace when the four year old grandson was dropped off unexpectedly. He was pretty content to hang out around us while we worked until our 17 year old grandson came to dig the flagpole hole. He then went to help dig for the flagpole and fill in some of Ruby’s excavations in the yard. We finally finished staining midafternoon and felt relieved that we can call that project complete. That crockpot of soup was the perfect end to a darn good day……

Welp, the garden seems to have survived without me or despite me during my absence, just like a teenager. Ha ha... Got a bit of a frost last night but the lettuce and whatnot out there seem to be perfectly fine. The cold frame and hoops and covers are in place for when they're needed. The tray full of seedlings that was toppled by squirrels (makes me think of the band Trampled by Turtles) is recovering. They're essentially mystery seedlings now, as it's hard to tell what's what when they're that small. The sorrel seedlings in the ground are doing mediocre. My hope is that at least two survive over the winter. One is OK, one is questionable, the other is likely dying. It doesn't help when leaves fall over them for a few days, blocking the sunlight. It's time to get the little kid size bamboo rake I bought for my grandson and start using it to sweep the veggies in the main garden and elsewhere. The little spinach seedlings also need to be swept so that they can get some sun. The rosemary and oregano appear happy. I guess it's time to bring in the green tomatos and hope for the best. I've had to throw some of the ripe and nearly ripe tomatos in the fridge away as they started to rot. That bin's gonna need a good cleanin' someday. Spotted a few new spiders in the house. Not sure if they're half grown baby descendants of my Carolina hunting/jumping spider, but they seem to be predators rather than weavers. I guess they'll keep the other bugs in check, although there aren't enough critters inside to feed them over the winter. The same sort of spider has been making little cocoons in my mailbox, which no doubt displeases the mail lady. I try to clean them out every few days, but they climb back up and make new cocoons.

This evening, I started putting my hydroponics together; got the larger tub ready to fill, but a couple of things from the smaller tub are out in the shed (I hope!), and I didn't want to go out there at 10:45 pm, so I used that as an excuse to stop. I'll continue tomorrow, and maybe fill them later on.

Was feeling so much better this morning, I went out and swept up some leaves on the flagstones, completely exhausting me, so went in to recover and that was the end of any work for today. By late afternoon was feeling much better, went to a village community meeting at 5:30 and did well with that. Expecting I will be fully back to normal tomorrow.

Birthday dinner with my parents Sunday and since it was cooler, I worked on piecing more hexagons for my quilt. Forgot to take my colored pencils along to coordinate the graph paper map I made but figured it was pretty self-explanatory when it was laid out.
Decided to tackle the shed today and while it's much more organized, I don't have a bit more storage space. Of course there's a trashcan of straw that will soon be filling animal houses and that project chair that needs to come inside that will free up a little bit of room. Decided to take the garden cart and two large trash cans to the old road that borders our property in an effort to collect leaves. I managed to fill them up but it took a while. I guess until we get a hard frost, those leaves just aren't coming down. Hubby ran them through the shredder and ended up with enough for 1/3 of the garlic bed. Neighbors yard is covered in leaves and since they're having medical issues, hubby offered to rake them up tomorrow.
Picked up the aforementioned quilt a few hours ago and attached a few of the new sections and didn't lay the pieces out in advance to make sure I had the right one and yep... Sewed one where I didn't intend it to be. So I could unpick lots of little tiny stitches or just go with the flow and chose the latter. Other piece can be used elsewhere.

Swept more leaves so that all the beds are covered in the garden. Lots more leaves to come down and spread. I took down the lights on my deck and put up the Christmas twinkle lights. Won't turn them on, but they are up and ready. We are going to do the rest of the house tomorrow when it's nice and warm. We officially turn them on at Thanksgiving.

Today I put a total of 13 bags of shredded leaves on the garden. Garden is about half covered. I’ve never sweat like a pig the end of October. And no coat, just tshirt and light wt pants. Then I think to myself, why did I shower this morning????? Now it’s too windy to do anything more outside.

So much for the pharmacist's thought that most people are not having as strong a reaction to this year's covid vax. Poor Mr. Breezy went thru that post-vac stuff yesterday, overnight, & well into today, poor guy. He's got the shot (flu & Covid) yesterday morning & is still feeling wonky.
