emmsmommy,So nice to have a little one care for you. They do grow up fast, don't they? Hubby is down for the count. He came down with a sore throat and just feeling cruddy. I think he caught it from granddaughter. She had a runny nose. Praying I don't come down with it. My two sisters and I had our annual kick off Christmas day. We go to breakfast , then shopping getting gift ideas for the kids. We plan what everyone is bring on Thanksgiving. It's usually the same every year, but it's a tradition. Came home and had enough time to empty some pots of dirt and store them away for the winter. That's about all I did in the gardening department.

decided to turn on an episode of Midsommer Murders and try and doze off to no avail We were kindred spirits last night, as I did the exact same thing (minus the feeling crummy - just couldn't fall asleep)!! Never drifted off though until around 4 a.m. Geesh.

Yesterday was a cloudy cool day, misty in the a.m. Finally heard from the home care nurse, she planned to come at 12:30. So off I went to witness the whole thing. As I suspected stepmom tried to say she doesn't need help. But if I'm not there she probably will send them packing. You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped, I learned that a long time ago. All we can do is offer and educate. The dr offered house call option for her Annual Medicare review, which I happily accepted. They even draw blood at home. That will happen in a couple weeks, then depending what labs show we can maybe let up on the "helicopter parenting"...... There is also a Senior Companion program, strictly volunteer, I signed her up for that too. It's a volunteer who comes as often as requested to just socialize.
Hoping leaves dry this afternoon and I can make progress on that. And finish clearing off the garden of broccoli and kale stalks.

Got to Aldi just as they opened. Just needed milk and bread, but wound up with 2 Advent calendars for the girls. I was really surprised they had lots of the fancy Advent calendars. I thought those were such a hot item you had to get there early. I wasn't interested in any of them , so I didn't buy any. Glad you got yours breezygardener,. Came home and decided it was such a nice day I would work on the deck a little. Moved a couple of the big flower pots off and put up the little Christmas tree I put out there. Deck needed a good sweeping, so cleaned up all the leaves and sticks. Got the firewood rack up onto the deck and started to stack firewood. Rack is about half full but I ran out of steam. Came in for a break, will go out in a little bit and stack more. Sure don't need a fire going during the day, but it's nice in the evening. Going to clean up the pile of leaves the grandkids swept up over the weekend now that have dried out a little.

Chilly walk this morning. Came home to do laundry and house chores. Then outside at 12:30 to rake/blow leaves. Couldn't shred them, too wet. Pulled the rest of the broccoli and kale stalks, picked enough chard for a couple meals. While out there I noticed lots of garlic coming through the 6" layer of shredded leaves, some are 3" above the mulch. And I planted them a few days later than last year, around 10-25. Must be the kelp I soaked them in. I've been using the extras for cooking that were soaked (ran out of planting space), used 3 cloves today and they were green inside, wanting to grow!! Tomorrow I'll work on the front yard, still lots of leaves on the Red Sunset maples. The city came for the first round of leaf pickup yesterday, followed by the street cleaner.
One more dry day then more rain.

With this snow storm we have had 2 power outages today. First one was for about 5 hours. Then we were up and running for 3 hours when the second outage hit- that lasted almost 6 hours. I was trying to do two loads of laundry and the power outage shut the machine down. Now that it's running again I am trying to get it done before/in case another outage arrives. And quick! Recharge the phone!
Couldn't do a whole lot due to no power so mostly read and talked on phone or texted today.

Youngest daughter and I took the train back from Virginia where we went for my sister's funeral. On the way back, my remaining sister called to let me know our first cousin had died of a massive heart attack. Hard week.

Hoping since I'm not terribly religious that they will still reach you.
