Not very many pests this year. A very few JB and the unmistakable SVB. Some stink bugs as well, but not enough to cause great damage. Also I can tell from the chomped leaves that the Tomato hornworm is here. The absolute worse are raccoons and rabbits. So far they have been responsible for most everything I lost.

Hey folks, I think this just may help with the SVB! I have tall onions that have been in place fro three years now. I leave them strictly because of the seed head and the way pollinator s love them! They are purple globes..quite pretty..4' tall. Today I went out and saw another SVB busy on the seed head...I started watching them more closely...there were 5 of them on the seed heads...so far, no frass or obvious frass on the squashes, pumpkin or cukes. So I'm wondering...could this possibly work well as a trap crop? Could the frc early in the season plus this bloom be helping?

The absolute worse are raccoons and rabbits. So far they have been responsible for most everything I lost. Are you in the city or in the country? Chicken wire will keep out the rabbits, but you may have to find a way to "neutralize" those racoons. I feel for you..it's really disheartening to do the work to produce fruit and veggies, and then to find that the critters have destroyed your crop. Fortunately, we are in the country.

I am in the city, but I've also seen deer around in my subdivision. Several deer, they were about to cross the street in full daylight.

I grew up in the country but live in the city now. I see far more wildlife than I ever did in the country. We are all squeezed in this small space together. People and animals. I see deer daily. I see foxes monthly. Groundhogs, birds of prey, possoms, raccons, even a coyote once. What is interesting to me is that every wild animal that ventures into the yard ends up climbing up the three steps to the patio and looking in the house through the sliding glass door.

BR, where you have the fencing around that portion of the garden...do you have it buried in the ground as well. And is that chicken wire?

I don't have mine buried but it's tight against the ground. Burying it is probably more secure though.
I used a new wire this year from Tractor Supply and the wires are closer together at the bottom than at the top but my chicken wire actually worked better other years. I thought that this new wire would be a nice improvement but I saw a rabbit jump up to the part where the sire was farther apart and go right through the fence so I had to put some chicken wire over that area. The soil was higher outside of that part of the fence and it allowed them to hop above the lower part of the fence which is called "rabbit guard"!

Any idea what this could be? It moves one way, then the "worm" part comes out the other side and it moves that way. No turning around its whole body. Very strange. I found it inside my house....... Attachments:

I have no idea but it may be possible you carried it in from outside.
