EEK!
Thanks for that Pic!
Yep, I save them and dice and freeze for soups too, but dang, I NEVER harvested 7 lbs.
Oh my goodness! I'm shaking my head and smiling so big, yep, my face hurts! hahhaahgah
You definitely have an impressive crop of scapes this year!
And for you ratatouille recipe guys, they will work wonders in that recipe.

Yup - lots of smelly scapes, so much so I had to wear a glove to cut them, and then take a shower to get the smell out of my hands (I had a meeting so I just couldn't smell like garlic!)
Now I'm waiting for the hopefully bountiful garlic harvest in 3-4 weeks.

(I had a meeting so I just couldn't smell like garlic!) That just brought back a wonderful "mom" memory. Many many years ago, when she was having treatment for a rare disease, she loved her doc who smelled of garlic. Mom said it reminded her of me.

You guys!! I have been listening to you talk about scapes for years, oddly enough I have never really had them. This year, like overnight, all of my garlic scaped. So yesterday evening I went out and picked them all and tonight I am going to try stir-frying them. I tried nibbling one raw and that was pretty awful. I can see why pesto would be strong - although my reading says it is much better if you freeze it for a while then use the pesto. Anyway - can't wait to see how they are!!!

Some people metabolize the sulphur compounds present in garlic in a very unpleasant--almost offensive-- way. These people don't really smell like garlic when they ingest it. They smell like sulphur, which is like saying they smell very much like rotten eggs (hydrogen sulfide). It's unfortunate, but it's just the way it is. To those who like it, enjoy.

I've never met anyone with that reaction to garlic. Thats too bad.
I can't imagine life without garlic!

Does anyone recall the member, O2fly, as I recall the spelling? He posted, on the old OG forum, the Garlic Bible chapters 1 and 2. I found it in my binder a few days ago and I'm happy to have it, everything you ever wanted to know about garlic. It's several pages long and I had printed it out and saved it. He dropped out of the OG forum years ago, he was devoted to garlic and scapes, wonder what happened to him?

Thank goodness you saved the Garlic War and Peace thread.
How can we get it up here?
Noone has heard from Oh2fly, that I KNOW OF.
He even painted scape pics! Do you remember that?

That's it, I'd forgotten the correct name. I do recall the pic's. I have it on hardcopy and it's so many page that I'd have to scan, I don't think I can scan that many pages at once in a PDF format. I'll think about how I could get it on this forum.

Well, I have to say, I am not a fan. I sauteed mine with some cauliflower florets. The cooked taste was very nice and mild, but they were so tough I had to chew them for flavor and spit them out!!!! There were just a few very small pieces I could eat. So not too sure I will be doing that again unless I plan to liquify them into pesto or hummuus

I cut one today but we have not tried it yet. They don't sound too appealing to me but hubby wants to try them.
