Here is a pic of what's happening here at the moment.
I have soft and hardnecks.
Varieties long ago mutated in my opinion, so I won't bother with the variety names. None look like the original garlic I planted back in 2006 or 7.
And I have downsized somewhat. I only grow 36 plants these days.
I am looking forward to the scapes, because I like them, and yep, I know many of you have no interest in them.
Cut them off as they appear. That is a reminder. You don't need them staying on there, as that deters from bulb formation..............BUT, people like to beg to differ about that too! And I enjoy the debate, every dang year!
Liz,
As a side note,
I am still growing out your garlic, and Rexx, is growing it out too. I think it has changed somewhat. It is not as robust as the original crop. Of course weather always plays a large part. But anyway, I think I need to rejuvenate my patch.
What is everyone else experiencing?

My garlic (all hardneck) is about 28-30". I don't remember how many I planted but around 50 or so.

Nice garlic, Lisaann. I love my scapes, but do share them with a Korean friend as she asks time and time again if I can give her all of my scapes. So last October, I gave her about 15 heads for her to plant in a garden. Every time I see her at her work, all she talks about is her garlic! She is so proud, and I'm happy to have helped a wee bit.

I am still growing the offspring of the ones you sent me years ago LA. Mine look about the same as yours right now. I had 50 of them before the chickens got into the garlic bed about a month ago. Now I have 48. All of the rest survived after I put the soil back in place. Darn chickens!
We don't eat the scapes so I will cut them off.

DW,
28 to 30 inches? Cool.
Can you share a pic?

OK, Miss LA. I just ran out in the wind and cold (a storm may be moving in) to snap this, but I am taking it down after you see it! Storage is precious here and I don't think my garlic is that exciting to keep in the archive. That's an 18" ruler

Dang,
That is impressive!
Thanks, okay, take it down.
I thought you were using photobucket?

Beautiful garlic.
No need to take the pic down. Photobucket pics do not use any of our data storage.
They are stored on the Photobucket server so they do not effect us.

Oh, I really did misunderstand! I thought, even with PB, that once I copy ('Direct') from my PB library, and paste ('Insert Image') here, it is taking up storage here.

I just use the img code but neither one uses any of our data storage allotment for the forum.

The right half of the garlic bed - I have around 100 plants or so, at about 2 feet I'd guess. This side is mostly elephant garlic.

Hi NCgarden,
Looking great! I forgot, I have a couple elephants out there.
Last year I harvested my garlic on 6/26.
When did you harvest yours?
You have your beds set up nice. Looks like very low maintenance. And very high enjoyment.
Pet the sheep for me!

Where is the data storage allotment for the forum?
It's not something that you can see. We are given 200 meg for the free forum and we have used 42 meg since we started. I think that was Feb 1. After we hit 200 meg it starts costing us money or we have to turn off the attachment feature and only use off site storage sites like Photobucket.
When our forum was run by Rodale they paid for stuff like this.
