binnylou , when my late friend's husband passed away his sons chose only to list their mother and his ex-wife and no mention of my friend, his late wife, who had passed a year earlier.

In on a mission. My eye that had been blurry due to "dry eye", so dr. said, has returned to normal vision, I also had plugged oil glands in the same eye with a lump on upper eyelid. I specifically asked her if the plugged oil gland caused the blurry vision. She said no. I didn't believe that but let it go. I did what she said, soak 4x day and use lubricating drops. 5 weeks, nothing. Went back, she did vision test for correction at that time, needed new lens for left eye. OK, $300 for ONE lens. Just the other day I noticed vision was off in that eye again, only this time it's better. This is about 5 weeks since that visit and lens change. I'm glad about improved vision, but not happy that I obviously paid for something based on false information. She had said vision can change after cataract surgery, because things can "shift around" as we age, still not due to clogged oil glands. Luckily when I got that new lens put in the glasses, I asked for the one they took out. They usually throw them away. I'll be going up this week and having that lens I saved put back in my glasses. I was going to get a pair of Rx sunglasses made, but think I'll get my Rx and take it elsewhere...... This is a dr who is new to the practice and I'd never seen her before.
I had done some reading on the subject and vision can be restored once the glands are unclogged. But the internet not being the best source of medical information, I didn't tell dr what I had read. Today I went to Mayo clinic website and found what I had read elsewhere was true. Vision can return to normal.
At least I won't have to pay for another new lens.

At least I won't have to pay for another new lens. But I would make sure to pay for another different doctor next time.

Went to the big sale at Gardenworks-30% off everything in the store. Picked up a few seeds for my Fall gardening adventures and a Hummingbird feeder heater. I am designing a heater that uses hand warmers for the front feeder as there is no electricity there. Got it unwrapped and damned if it wasn't broken! Can't return it until the sale is over so a wait til next week to go.

...when people expect me to be on call and pick up their phone call or respond to their text immediately. I don't keep my phone with me when I'm working in the gardens. When I'm out there I'm there. People get frustrated that I'm not answering right away. I'm peeved at them for expecting me to.

Earlier this year I got a text message from a contractor stating, "I'm here." I looked outside and saw him sitting in his car. I waited about ten minutes or so and then replied, "You need to knock on the front door."
I guess he wasn't too worried about making a living.

when people expect me to be on call and pick up their phone call or respond to their text immediately. Many of my kids, who should know better, leave texts and voice messages and complain it takes me so long to respond. I keep telling them all they have to do is call me; I can hear the phone ring better than hear the annoying text beeps and buzzes. When I am in the shower, gardening, napping or very busy, I will check for messages after I am done, but I am not one of those who looks at their phone every few minutes to see who is texting. When I was a doula, back before cell phones, I would watch for calls from clients in labor, but that was it.

I rarely take my phone outside when school's out unless it's to take a photo or try to identify something. Very few people have my cell number and I recently asked for my cell number to be removed from my medical records because even though I've stressed several times to call the landline and leave a message because of crappy cell service, they still call the cell for appointment reminders, test results, etc... This phone will actually enable calling on Wi-Fi, but it could be days before I have enough service to see that there's a message.

"You need to knock on the front door." Unless you're the UPS driver, sitting in your car and blowing the horn is a sure way to ensure I'm not going to go out and see what you want.

When I was a doula, back before cell phones, I would watch for calls from clients in labor, Did you ever have a pager? My pager was only for birth clients so if it buzzed I knew I had to find a phone, pronto. Then I graduated to a cheap cell phone when cells came in, and bought prepaid minutes on a card I purchased from Target or Walmart, etc- primarily for birth clients (though I did use it very occasionally for non birth calls). So when I was on call I had that cell phone with me, knowing that if it rang, I had a mama starting labor. Wow- I haven't thought about that in many many years. How far communication technology has come in the past 25 years.

...when people expect me to be on call and pick up their phone call or respond to their text immediately. This irks me too. While I do try to respond immediately or soon to direct questions that obviously need a prompt answer, I simply am not always able to drop everything to chat.

My kids get upset when I do not respond to their texts but the other way around I don't get answers to my texts to them sometimes ever! Lots of time I may not look at my phone during the day, as I too do not take it into the garden with me. Sometimes the day is just busy. But they do know that I cannot respond when I drive for work as we would get fired if we look at it.

Well, you can see if your text has been opened by the person it was sent to. That prob adds to the frustration. I ans when I can. Then again, I don’t expect my kids to ans right away either. I call if it’s that important.

A new peeve for me. Facebook "Events" that I am invited to. I just saw one yesterday for a cousin's daughter's bridal shower. I don't live on facebook. I can go days or even a couple three weeks without looking at it. I do not have notifications enabled. So I see this the day of the "event". I get that people don't want the expense of written and mailed invites, but what about a phone call? Or even a text..... So I replied that I did not know about it in time to attend.

Mumsey there are actually sites that will send an email..you can respond by clicking a box. They will send a reminder of the event as well as links to shower wish lists for gifts. It was feeling odd to me. An I wonder if it’s just that I’m getting old 😂 it was quite simple to do. Just seemed impersonal?
