My lone forsythia and the several redbud trees are really showy. Neighbor's cherry and pear trees are blooming full, too. Perty.

Some hostas are poking their little heads up!
Petunias saved from seed are blooming. I had saved pink ones from ones I bought last year. They are pretty pinks with hints of yellow centers. Not like the parent obviously!

Boganvillias can be planted Outside in Zones 9-11...need full sun and well draining soil. Beautiful. Do you love it enough to bring it in for winter? I started lobelia in February ut they are still pretty tiny..they love sun but need respite from constant afternoon sun. My deck planters are shaded from the house after1pm but have full sun from sun up until 1. I believe lobelia would be stunning in that pouch ๐but you may need nursery starts to have them grow quickly enough..

I started several different flowers this year. Sea Holly, blue spikes 36โ tall. Kinda spiked like a thistle. A white African chrysanthemums type daisy, and echinops retro (3โ chive like blue flower ball) and a bright red cosima Lucifer that looks like a red bird of paradise kind of bloom..bulbs. Flowers bring me such joy.

claude, Yes to the bouganvillea! Sis gave me one last year. Brought it in for the winter. It looked sad for a while but is now lush and beautiful. It just needed some fertilizer and light. It's under grow lights and can't go out til mid May. I have Heavenly Blue morning glory seeds soaking. Will start indoors.

I soak my morning glories seeds but I find that just that alone gets them off and running...moon flowers? W 100 day to bloom I start them In an oversized pot or it will be late aug before I seed a flower. Nasturtiums? I start those early but make very sure to prepare their spot well so I donโt disturb them planting. This year I planted my flower boxes in The basement so the nasturtiums could get a head start...the dogs have a problem Rooting in my flowers...๐they eat the soil..and any young plants and shoots. Decimated my lobelias. There is no added fertilizer or compost added and still... It makes me crazy.

claude,I'm not doing Moon Flowers this year. Every year they break my heart. I start them early, but by the time they get flower buds, the first frost gets them. I got blooms one time a few years back and none since. I even grew them up against the house thinking it would be warmer, but still the frost got them. I do have Morning Glories that reseed every year.

I was digging the canna that I left in the ground all Winter. I usually dig only what I will need for the next year and it's easier to dig them in the Spring. I was digging one up on the west side of house and noticed some wood mulch sticking up like something was under there. So I poked around and I'll be darned! There's canna growing! As I was digging the rotting mass, the new shoots were on healthy tubers right up against the foundation. Never had this happen before. Maybe it was warm enough there to protect them. That and we didn't get hardly any frost this Winter. All the tubers I dug should have been totally mush, but most weren't. I'm thinking some of them would have grown but I dug them anyway.
Then went to the tree dump. There was a big pile of wood chips. So I made 5 trips of 4 big totes and a bucket. Got the front of the house beds done!

the dogs have a problem Rooting in my flowers.. Have a similar problem with my cat, Charlie, who thinks it's his job to tear open and empty out any bag of potting soil, no matter how large. While I was seed starting the other day, I had to yell, throw stuff and get up numerous times until the bag was light enough for me to lift and place on a high shelf.

Here Morning Glories are a weed everywhere. It is fun watching what different colors come up. A lot of them by the cornfields. Cannas generally survive the winter here as do Glads.

We have lots of the wild morning glories aka bindweed! Mostly in ditches and fence lines.
