binnylou, but they are NOT cold hardy. I've tried planting a few in the ground on the south side of buildings, and they make it through the winter, but usually freeze back to the ground and start over, so they don't get much growth or flowers on them. Looks like Monday or Tuesday the great migration will occur again where all the plants come out of hiding to soak up a few days of sun and water before going back in before the next freeze. We've had three nights below freezing and one to go before another warming spell. Alan

binnylou The hardy hibiscus is the one that makes it through the Winter here. They don't show up at nurseries/stores until later in July. All the ones they sell early are the tropical ones. Pretty but not hardy here!

Every time I drive a nail it shows up on my property tax bill. Oh brother! I am wondering if I had to put in a permit for putting a small greenhouse in. Will have to check that out without telling the town

lilolpeapicker. Is it a stand alone permanent structure with foundation? If itโs portable I wouldnโt think they could tax you.

Mumsey, It isn't yet....I did say had but I have been wanting to add to the shed I put in a few years back. If it is small which it would be I may be able to without a permit. Just want it big enough to just step into. You may be correct about the lack of foundation however.

lilolpeapicker, I would imagine building codes are different everywhere. Any time we build up or out, we need a permit. This included our 2 decks. But we never needed permits for indoor remodeling, electrical or anything. Though that has changed in recent years. We did need inspection of electrical panel and outdoor grounding, but no permit. The county probably realized they were losing revenue by not having certain permits/inspections. If they don't know about it, they can't tax it. Didn't need a permit for fence either, the only thing is it can't be over 6 ft high. It can even be right on the property line per code. It was pretty lax around here! So if you ad something permanent, they will probably tax it. You can probably check the city codes online.

Hibiscus? Here in CT I received 2 as gifts, dinner plate ones in red.. planted outside along the driveway and they came back 3 yrs running. A severe ice storm did them in. I did not protect them. Just watered until they were established. They were beautiful.

My large 20' x 48' greenhouse is considered a temporary structure and is not taxable. My new wooden shed will be built on skids and also not taxable because it is moveable.

Our garden shed can be moved and it does not show on our property tax statement.

You may be surprised by petunias under the picnic table this year.

Just planting some more sunflowers in cells. Some from packets, others from self-saved seed. Pandora's box I'm thinking, lol. This is the third round this year. The previous seedlings are already in the ground. I want to keep sunflowers going all year. Easy to say in February... add: I just checked my email and just got a message that the 'special' variety of zinnia seed I ordered a week ago is on the way. This is a week earlier than they said. So I'll wait for that to get here before planting a round of zinnias.

Petunias are in need of up potting. Once I started watering with very diluted kelp, they really started growing.
Snapdragons like the kelp also. The plants are looking for a bigger potโฆthe seed was scattered on top, so some are crowding others.
Salvia was scattered also, so I have a mat of short, robust Salvia plants. I think salvias will be divided in to clumps, instead of trying to separate the starts. The snaps will get separated, since the seeds were a mix of colors. I miss being able to purchase the Rocket Snaps by color.

Love Cosmos. I may just have to plant some this year. I know I have an old packet of seeds.
