pondgardener, very pretty. Will they provide color in to fall? I’ve tried growing these, but failed. I need to try again. My fall flower garden needs more “fall” bloomers. Marigolds and Dahlias are struggling this year…grower error, I think. 🤭 next year…

binnylou, the gomphrena seem to last until a heavy frost, though ahntjudy would be able to elaborate more on that.

I almost never grow flowers, but this year I got 2 free packets of yellow zinnia seeds from Baker Creek. I planted 6 of them indoors, and ended up planting 5 of them in my front bed, between and on the ends of my okra Earthboxes. Here's one of them - cut out 2 old flowers yesterday, in that empty space you see, but there are at least 6 more buds, almost ready to open. My free yellow zinnias, from Baker Creek. 7-30 by pepperhead212, on Flickr

How tall do the gomphrena get? pondgardener, ahntjudy. Love the color. Like binny, my Fall garden needs more color.

desertwoman, I went outside with a tape measure and the height varies from 12-24"...although the taller ones may be stretching to get more sun, as I planted them pretty thick.

Those look wonderful spike2 They made me smile. I see flowers as food for the soul. We may not usually eat them as food, but they fill us in other ways.

I see flowers as food for the soul. We may not usually eat them as food, but they fill us in other ways. So true especially this year. The volunteer sunflowers in the garden are stealing the show now along with the snapdragons and marigolds I planted in the edge of the beds. I think however the potted geraniums, coleus and impatiens in the backyard have brought us the most enjoyment this year. Not an evening goes by where we aren't conversing about what's blooming. Hubby thinks I am a plant whisperer as he had doubts that the scraggly looking Persian shield I overwintered would turn in to the bushy mass it is now. I was also gifted some cuttings of a few different varieties of wandering jew and spider plants that add a tropical feel to the deck as well.
