Just at dawn I heard the first robin of the spring. Sorry folks, they still can't sing.

Garlic is coming up, more daffs and crocus. Still some snow but not enough to bring my spring good mood down (zzz)or kill my buzz.

Another sign of spring- the yo-yo. in the 60's a couple of days and then a light snow. Back to the 60's and then a heavy frost....

OK, I am starting to believe that Spring might actually arrive. We still have patches of snow remaining on the yard and in the garden but I saw that my crocus have popped up about an inch. It's not much and many casual observers would miss it but it's a sure sign that Spring will come.

Lupines are sending out new growth from the ground and chives are sprouting out there. That's all I saw. No asparagus yet. Dang, I forgot to check my garlic. And I have MUD!
Oh the lycoris is coming up.

Let me see if I can remember everything! Carolina jasmine is blooming, native columbines are blooming, lady banks thornless yellow roses are starting, bridal wreath spirea is starting, leaves coming out on weigela, flowering crab apples are close to popping blooms, neighbor's pear tree almost done with blooms and leaves are almost full out, wisteria has bloom buds starting to droop, azaleas have a few blooms near the bottom open and the top buds soon will be, red honeysuckle and gold honeysuckle are going strong, onion chives are blooming, iris & day lilies are growing, Brugmansia (angel trumpet) is putting out leaves, volunteer poppies are up....that's all that comes to mind right now.

Old thread…I know.
Took a walk out to the flower garden this morn. I found my red mums with new growth coming up. They are planted right adjacent to the south foundation of the barn, so they are in a happy spot. Also found a pot of Carnations showing life. They were planted from seed and sat in a big nursery pot, exposed to all of winter's nasty.
All other garden residents seem to be resting.

All of my Snowdrops are blooming, & the daffodils are all up about 2". Star magnolia buds are getting larger, & my little Flowering Quince bonsai & my "Fignominal" dwarf fig are starting to leaf out.

Oh goodie! I am always so relieved to see those signs. Snow has finally melted and I see about half the garlic standing proud above the leaf mulch, a few day lilies and daffodils have poked out of the soil, parsley and California poppies have started to green up.

I found one small clump of daffodils, about an inch tall, out in the flower garden.
Every year when they start to show growth, I’m wishing that I had planted some for forcing. Many years ago, I had good luck with forcing hyacinths and daffodils. I have a pic of daughter, about two years old, standing on a kitchen chair so she could sniff the hyacinths. That would be about 1978.
