No bunnies here. We do have raccoons and skunks that like to come raid the corn patch. I put a radio in the corn patch tuned to the local talk show and it discourages the critters. A 12 gauge shotgun is effective if you get a target. I know, likely illegal to shoot.

I picked the first ears from my early planting of "Who Gets Kissed" yesterday. Very good. I am not planning to buy seed again. This is very good for an open pollinated cultivar. The stand was a little thin, since I planted it just ahead of a cold spell in April, but the plants with extra space put on at least 2 ears each.
The second planting is just putting out tassels now. It should be far enough away from the field corn to avoid cross pollination.

Beautiful corn. The silks on mine turned brown but the ears are not filled out yet. I sure hope for some rain. I do not have enough water to help the corn.

The 3 rows about 8' long didn't pollinate really well, but not bad I guess. Sometimes I just eat an ear raw out in the garden. lisaann, I agree about TOO sweet. I have a friend at church that always used to grow some fabulous Ambrosia corn. Now he has switched to growing Mirai, which is all sugar, without much corn flavor.

I don't much like the overly sweet varieties either. I won't even eat them. The medium sweet with actual corn flavor are my favorites to eat.

I picked my first 24 ears of Incredible corn today. I only plant 4 short rows so I will probably have 3 more pickings like this one.

We don't eat a whole lot of corn but I have to say that it was very delicious to eat corn that was harvested 3 hours before dinner. The kernels were fairly small compared to market stand corn and full of flavor, not starchy at all. We ate some with BLT's for dinner and cut the rest off of the cobs and froze it. The chickens go to pick over the cobs so everyone here was happy tonight with our corn harvest. I have probably 3 more harvests like this one out there and I also picked the first lima beans so now I can make that succotash recipe that I got from restless last year. It is a yummy way to use these 2 veggies together. Tomorrow night I may make some corn chowder with my corn and some of my fresh potatoes.

Sometimes I just eat an ear raw out in the garden. Often times I do the same thing not quite making it to the kitchen! Yummy!

Squirrels got to my corn again this year; every cob has been gnawed into. Must have happened when I went away last Friday and Saturday and then wicked rain Sunday and Monday... Got to do something about them but if I can't figure it out corn will have to be taken off my grow list. Also spotty germination and tasseling of High Mowing Incredible corn as well as fertilization of silks I will have to go back to Pinetree seeds, Honey Select which I never had problems with germination and fertilization-wise.
