Yesterday was a goof off say. First we went to breakfast via the boat. My son and some of his friends in their boats met at a restaurant on the river.. Kids had a blast and the weather was perfect. Hardly any boaters out this time of the year, and we usually don't have 80 degrees weather at the end of October. Unfortunately there was a fatal wave runner accident just down river from us and happened a little while after we saw these two guys racing up and down river. The river is really low due to lack of rain, so you really need to stay in the middle, I guess one wave runner was in the shallow water and at high speed hit something or hit bottom. Sad ending to a beautiful day.

Goof off day yesterday- talked with sis on FaceTime, read, went to friends' for a mid afternoon pie and tea get-together. Apple and green chile pie-both from their garden- crust had cheddar cheese grated into it. It was fabulous. Reminds me of a local saying... "that's too much green chile" said no New Mexican ever...

Went for morning walk, did laundry, went to the Women's Club meeting. Guess I'll be joining and give it a year and see how it goes. I'll help out with whatever but do not, Repeat DO NOT want to be in charge of anything. I spent 25 years leading people at work and have no desire to do that again in any capacity........ I rather like having no one answering to me......and vice-versa. I'm going into it with an optimistic approach and it does sound like fun.

Spent the morning doing civic deeds- reworked a template for a letter to NM Environmental Dept, so that it sounded more like a personal letter and emailed it. Finished letter writing and stopped at the village PO for books of stamps to get the stack of letters mailed today. The we drove into town, mailed the letters and had a late lunch out- at our favorite spot for red chile enchiladas. Then picked up what looks to be the last of the pears windfall (unless some are hiding behind leaves).

Yesterday after finishing the culvert project I decided to help with sweetheart’s fence painting project. She has help hired to stain the four horizontal board fence with a wood post and vertical board every 7 1/2 feet but most of the time consuming work is spent doing the post and back of the boards attached to it so that is what I worked on. Kind of frustrating making sure everything is covered. Today, being kid day, sweetheart was off early to get one grandson to school and bring the other one home but she changed her plans and picked up our 2 year old grandson also. I took two other grandchildren to school then treated myself to a cinnamon roll and coffee before heading back home. My phone rang and sweetheart wanted me to meet her and the boys at a pumpkin patch that has animals to feed and pet also. I didn’t mind spending the time with them as there wasn’t much pep in my step to start the day. Later I spent some time on the excavator grubbing out some well rotted stumps and even tackled a much larger one successfully that I had my doubts about. It was another darn good day. Our youngest trying to kiss a goat….

It was such a beautiful day again yesterday, we took a half goof off day. Went up to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin for a little while. Had lunch and sat by the lake and enjoyed the warm weather and warm sun. Came home and got the garlic planted before I had to leave to watch hockey practice. This morning is ballet class for the little one, then I plan on sweeping up leaves for the garden beds and will finish planting a few bulbs I have left. Hubby going to pull boat out of the water and winterize it. Temps in the 60's the rest of the week.

Spent 12 hours preparing, serving and cleaning up after the dinner at our community building. The bare minimum we can operate with is six and six we had, so not much downtime. I came home, gave hubby the dinner I brought home for him, kissed a sleeping kiddo goodnight and quickly entered slumberland myself. Other than a small craft event where I'm to give a demonstration next month, only small Christmas dinners for the rest of the year and I'm so glad.
I don't know if it's due to having an injury, approaching burnout or just getting older, but I'm really trying to pull irons out of the fire. At the quilt guild meeting I didn't volunteer to head the ornament exchange or organize the Christmas party and doubt that I step up. Also our ladies club likes to meet for lunch to celebrate our club's formation and I will not be attending. It's nice, but with all of our health issues and traveling to appointments, money is a bit tight.
I went back to bed after kiddo was on the bus and just finished breakfast and hopefully I get the garlic bed prepared today.

Garlic is planted! About 1/3 bed hard neck and the rest soft neck. I have no idea exactly how many--just planted until I ran out of room. Topped with composted chicken manure and will eventually top with shredded leaves. My butt is definitely dragging.

Woke up to clouds today with some rain at walk time. Not a lot but enough to get every thing wet. So we walked early afternoon. I couldn't figure out why Princess wanted out twice this morning, but figured it out when it got light. She did a good job with her yard guard duties and effectively eliminated a very large rabbit. Now she's focusing on a squirrel. I could see where the rabbit's error was, tried to get through the fence at the wrong spot and must have gotten stuck. Lots of fur evidence. I heard nothing.
Got the 10 bags of tomatoes out of the freezer and put them on to cook down. Ended up with 7 qts juice, 2 gallons of frozen fresh tomatoes and a pint of pizza sauce. In a week or two it will be time to make veggie soup to can.

Nothing much outside of a brief grocery trip this morning to take advantage of some good sales on ground turkey (outdoor grilled turkey burgers tonight!!) & Mr. Breezy's favorite Shrimp Burgers.

It was a town day. Started with my 6 month skin check- he froze off 4 pre cancers. Then I shopped for shoes. The owner of the shop is so knowledgable and helpful. Got me into a perfect fit pair of comfy shoes- like walking on pillows. This is my second pair of this brand. And then the 2 week grocery shopping- had to go to 4 stores to get all I needed. Got home and a neighbor stopped by to pick up the pumpkin from my garden that had her name on it. Finished with making fresh salsa- enough for 4 half pint jars.

Yesterday started out with sweetheart taking grandkids to school while I set sail to pickup the stepson’s camper after being repaired and serviced. Towing it back home was a bit nerve wracking as it was quite breezy. Had a short burst of a thunderstorm go through with lightning striking close enough that it shook the house. A couple hours later, aided by the sunshine and breeze, sweetheart was back painting and I went back to grubbing out brush with the excavator. Is it to early to turn in my Christmas list??

Since the eggplant & okra are amazingly still in "never say die" mode, watered them as well as the bonsai & herbs that are still going strong. Also sprinkled/moistened the spent tomato tubs so yanking the dead plants will be easier & I can plant some autumn stuff like garlic, greens, & such.

Today was a spiff up day. We live on a private lane that serves 3 houses. There are 4 chamisa bushes (native, never need watering) along the beginning of the lane. I lightly pruned them so that they are no longer draping into the lane, cleaned them up a bit, leaving the dried flowers for winter interest. Repainted the lettering on the "Private Lane... " sign.
Then I voted this afternoon. It surprised me how relieved I felt doing that-like a weight was lifted.
Last thing was to give myself a haircut. I'm getting good! Been cutting it since the pandemic started and decided I don't need to go back to a pro unless I want an extremely different cut.
