Mumsey, I had a Maytag dbl door bottom freezer and it was great..for15 yrs bef the ice maker malfunctioned. The issue was that the REPLACEMENT parts are not OEM by Maytag..they are garbage. THEY were expensive and crapped out just after the 30 day guarantee. Just my opinion.

He did mention that most fridges with French doors on top and freezer on bottom have issues with the ice unit Good to know. Mine has been nonworking for over a year, but haven't gotten around to calling the repair people as other repairs take precedence. Keeping ice trays filled in the bottom freezer and the water filter/dispenser still works.

Ours is a Samsung double door, freezer on bottom, 15 years old and so far so good. No ice maker problems. If that does happen and the freezer and fridge work why buy a new one? Will just make ice in trays like we use to.

Still pretty beat from my marathon days so I puttered in the gardens today. Picked up another round of windfall pears (there's a LOT from that huge 50+ year old tree and no way we can pick high up fruit). They are not the best of pears- more sour than sweet. Cleaned algae off the waterfall rocks at our pond. Picked first lettuce from volunteer plants, another half basket of chiles and 4!!! ripe!!! tomatoes!!! I can't believe my first tomato harvest in happening nearly in October! I'm usually feeding my garlic bed around now and can't do that yet, as all 4 beds are still producing

Been a rough few days. Hubby has been in AFib since the day after his cardiology appointment and unless his heart rate or blood pressure gets erratic, he was instructed to wait it out. Ended up getting a call to pick kiddo up as she was "uncooperative" Friday morning. Went to school with intentions of grounding her for the rest of the day, but I didn't find an uncooperative kid, but instead found her special needs teacher and her aide puzzled as why I was even called. She was with one of her therapists at the time and had been cooperating, so I let her finish the session. Evidently it was the principal's decision as she had a small meltdown at breakfast TWO hours earlier due to a classmate screaming and cussing. Of course there was a handful of "important" people from the state BOE walking around with the principal when I was there and I suspect that's the reason. When I emailed her questioning the decision, she said the special needs coordinator made the call, so I called her and left a message. She apologized and said she was in a meeting when the call came in and it was made to sound much worse than it was and that she had been in contact with kiddo's teacher, aide and special needs teacher prior to contacting me. The social worker at the school took me aside and gave me some "off the record" advice and unless things change I'm prepared to start homeschooling now.
On the bright side, I picked four bags of tomatoes yesterday, which meant four bags had to come out of the freezer and cooked down. Messed with the washer a little bit and discovered that it would now fill with water but wouldn't agitate or spin, leaving me to believe it was the lid switch. So after three hours, one dropped phillips screwdriver, duct tape and lots of Yosemite Sam mutterings, I now have a functional washing machine.
We've received a total of 1 1/2" of rain in the past week and things are starting to green up a bit but creeks are still at a trickle.

Mumsey, our friends have a refrigerator that I believe is similar to yours. They're on number three right now and all replaced by the manufacturer due to numerous issues.

Mumsey when my puppies became resistant to change, I carried a sand size bag of those really tiny treats. Just be sure to close it well or they will root around inyour coat pockets.😀

The issue was that the REPLACEMENT parts are not OEM by Maytag..they are garbage. THEY were expensive and crapped out just after the 30 day guarantee. Just my opinion. That's seems to be more common nowadays. I forgot the spatula was still in the bowl of the Kitchen-Aide before I turned it on and broke one of the wires on the whip. Pulled it loose and finished what I was doing but have been looking for a replacement. The OEM parts have a low rating and one I found on Amazon has over four stars with several reviews saying it was far better quality.

It was food processing day today. Made my rustic sauce, for the freezer, with the 4 huge tomatoes I picked yesterday, along with basil and garlic from the garden, and onion. Got 2 1/2 pint jars. Will top off the half when I make another batch. Also made two more half pints of pesto, and roasted the chiles I picked yesterday. Freezer is filling up- oh yay.

Got a call from brother Saturday night asking if I would come Sunday and help can sauerkraut. OK. So I loaded up my supplies and went. I like to use my own equipment, bigger pans, etc. Got there and as usual nothing was happening, not even started. So I gathered up jars and filled the sink with them. Then went to the basement to open the crock. OMG. Awful odor. OMG. Black brine!! We took out the weight and plate from the top of the kraut. Come to find out, Dad used an aluminum pizza pan which created a chemical reaction with the salt in the kraut. It looked like oil. The entire batch was ruined. Felt bad for Dad, he doesn't think like he used to. At least there are still jars of kraut in the pantry. Ended up with lots of clean jars which I put in separate boxes for applesauce canning in a week or so. We couldn't get that crock out of the house fast enough, never smelled anything that bad, aside from skunk!
Picked tomatoes and bean pods when I got home. No-see-ums weren't as bad. Looking forward to cooler weather starting tomorrow.

Went to a local"ish" appliance store, 15 miles away and definitely not big box. These guys have been in business for 30 years, they deliver, haul away and service everything they sell. The issue with freezer is probably freon, they said. So I ordered an Amana chest freezer, bigger than the one I have but apparently they can't get the smaller ones anymore. That's OK, I've decided when the basement Maytag side by side dies, it's 18 years old, it may not be replaced.
Still hot today, feels humid. No outside work done.

Attended a strategy session for the CG today. Lot's of great ideas floating around and I do not envy the board trying to sort through it all. Met with the project coordinator for our upcoming plant sale and worked out some logistics. By the time the planning session was over it was just too hot to work outside. Was up in Northern California last week working on the family cabin. A lot of reorganizing, cleaning and de cluttering. Re-insulated the copper pipes and sealed some holes underneath the cabin. Couldn't get anybody to respond as to if they planned to use the place before the cold temps arrive, so went ahead and winterized it. Did scatter some native wildflower seeds in select spots. Also gathered some seeds to try and germinate.

Couldn't motivate myself to work in the gardens so I did lots of catch up book keeping and paperwork-several hours worth. And cleared several other projects that have been sitting on my desk for a couple of months. Then I bagged up another quart bag of chiles that got roasted last night and carried it and jars of sauce and pesto to the chest freezer in our "Mango Room". On my way back to the house I picked lettuce and some sun gold cherry tomatoes-the extent of my outdoor work today.

It was hot here yesterday too. Did work on moving some wood chips into the weed infested side garden where I had pumpkins and gourds growing this year. Had to give up after a while. Just too hot in the sun. Hubby decided to cut down some branches off the dying Bradford Pear tree, so we did that later in the day. That side of the house was in the shade, so it wasn't bad working there. Threw the branches and logs on the trailer and got them to the back of the lot and into the burn pile. Too windy to burn,so that will wait. Went and watched granddaughter's skating lesson. Came home to watch my Moon Flower open. Hubby thought I was crazy standing out there in the dark with a flashlight to watch a flower. I'm off to go pick up a few groceries.
