No measurable rain today but enough sprinkles to halt mowing. I worked on emptying buckets and containers of soil and came across a tote of compost that I didn't know I had. Mixed it with some leaf mold and biochar and will use it to top off one of the worst beds. Cleaned out a bed in the old garden and decided to try growing Daikon radishes as a cover crop. Watered thoroughly and will continue to do so until we get significant rain.
Having issues with school again as kiddo brought home a math assignment with a zero on it. I questioned it because it's above her level and her assignments are to be modified. I know the teacher is dealing with a rowdy class and probably hasn't been adequately filled in, so want to get things straightened out ASAP. Also have been clued in that special needs teacher is taking kiddo's baby everyday, which causes a meltdown. Not a happy camper about that as there's a reason she'll leave her baby in the car everywhere but school and unfortunately she can't tell me why. I'm planning to talk to the doctor when kiddo gets her stitches out and possibly obtaining a prescription for baby. Sad because I really thought this year would be different.

Raised bed #9 has been fed and seeded to mustard seed. I may have waited too long for the cover crop seeding, but with predicted warmer weather, there may be some growth. If I don’t get mustard, there’s still the newly added hummus/manure plus chopped leaves from last year.
That bed is rock hard…hoping Mother Nature takes care of that with freeze/thaw cycles. If not, I’ll be digging and turning before onions get planted.

Another off and on rainy day. Got about 1/3 inch. No outdoor work today. Puttered in the house and read.

Yesterday hubby and I finished the deck. There were some loose railings, sticky label residue that needed to be rubbed off, pots to be emptied, just general clean up, but it's done. Will put table, chairs and swing away in a couple of weeks. Pulled another tomato plant out and picked green beans. The ground is too hard and dry to dig in. After dropping off granddaughter at her dad's, I stayed and watch them work on their Halloween project. They are making some kind of skeleton display. The kids are so excited about it, it was fun to watch them. Went out last night and watched the Harvest moon and the eclipse for a little bit. That moon was pretty bright. All in all, a quiet and productive day. Still enjoying the warm summer weather while I can.

Another productive day, though it did not include the other half of the basement. Went for early walk. Came home, had breakfast, then decided since the grass was dry I would mow. So at 0800 I mowed the entire yard. Picked broccoli and pulled 4 pepper plants after stripping them of peppers, no new blossoms. Will freeze them tomorrow. Cut down all the Loves Lies Bleeding (Amaranth)which was all entangled with Cardinal Vine. Not letting that grow next year! and 2 more tomato plants. Only 5 remain, 4 San Marzano and 1 Sprite. Got 2 ice cream buckets of green ones to add to the "to ripen" pile in the basement. Also started cutting down water bottles for next year's seedlings, got 150 done. To be continued another day, wanted to get some done since there was room in the recycle bin for the cut off parts to be picked up today. Got rid of a couple more potted plants that were looking wimpy. Next will the the Sun Patiens, they are starting to get yellow. I'm cutting down all the Canna this year and not digging any, too darn much work and lately the JB's have been terrorizing them.
I've been picking new asparagus shoots that are appearing since I cut them all down. Eating them, I figure what the heck, they taste like Spring!! Those new shoots would probably appear anyway, just can't see them amongst all the ferns. I've been pulling asparagus seedlings all over the garden, it's gonna be a mess of seedlings next year. Hoping for rain tomorrow and the weekend to soften up the soil. If it happens, I'll be digging garlic bed.

Went to my first work party at the CG this morning. Very impressed with how organized and efficient the event was. Main intent was to clear along the access road to the gardens. Word went out a week ago and those who participated were happy to do so. With enough people and implements of destruction, we were able to not only clear the access road, but also complete multiple projects within the CG. The property owner was quite pleased. Afterwards, it was a muscle relaxant for sure, but very satisfying. Now, it's nap time y'all.

Spent the entire afternoon in Albuquerque, then got back to the house in town just in time to meet the plumber who took over a repair we couldn't do. The last time (maybe 5 years ago) we had the washing machine drain clog up we were able to get the extremely heavy snake up onto the roof where it needs to enter in order to go far enough. My how things change in 5 years. We're just no longer strong enough to get the snake up there and we are wise enough to know when to admit that limit. It was a humbling admission and a first. Darn.

Hubby took the chance and worked yesterday even though we were supposed to get rain again. I puttered outside mainly collecting pots and watering the flowers in containers. Realized that there's a little more than three weeks before our average frost date and that I needed to work out a plan as far as what I'd attempt to cover and save, and what I'd simply let go. I thought I'd picked all of the dried or nearly dry pods off of the beans a few days ago, but more were waiting yesterday as no measurable rain the previous day. Hubby has been coming home in time to get kiddo off the bus as he doesn't want her walking up the driveway on her foot yet even though it's healing fine. He brought me several boxes and a few surprises as well. I kicked myself for not picking up a porcelain coffee percolator at a yard sale last week and he happened to drive by and it was still going on, so he grabbed it and an old round porcelain dishpan that had seen better days but perfect as a planter. Funny thing is that I didn't mention that percolator to him at all. Just something I picked up and looked at and sat back down. We sat under the chestnut tree and pulled tape from all the boxes while listening to thunder. Managed to finish the boxes, put them in the shed and get kiddo off the bus and inside before it finally rained. Only 3/8" but very welcomed. I made an evening trek around the garden and thought I'd share the Ten Fingers of Naples tomato bed and the Corbaci peppers, both of which have made it through the drought just fine and are producing like crazy. Tomatoes were only watered once after they were established and that was over a month ago. Peppers went into the garlic bed and have had no additional water once they were established. These tomatoes are labeled as semi-indeterminate, but they go absolutely nuts and manage to overtake any attempts to keep them orderly. I used wire for the last round of Florida weave and they still misbehave and sprawl. This is also the tomato that I swore I wasn't going to plant in a double row again but did. Producing like crazy right now I've been continuously harvesting these in an effort to keep the plants upright and they're still producing.

That’s quite a pepper harvest waiting to happen, emmsmommy. And no blight on your tomatoes? Most of my tomato plants are crispy dead, except for one raised bed of 8 plants.

A few of the lower leaves are yellowing but otherwise it's a tomato jungle. Most of my other plants withered and died or look pretty crappy from lack of water.
