I have never put garlic in the fridge for chilling or storing. Only if I have a partial head in the kitchen does it go in the fridge.

Only if I have a partial head in the kitchen does it go in the fridge. I peel the cloves of partial, damaged and small heads and store covered with olive oil in a pint jar in the fridge. Was told that because it was without oxygen (in the olive oil) that to avoid bacteria it was safer to keep in the refrigerator. Don't know if this is true, but easier to keep it there on the door than do the research. The cloves are easy to use when I am in a hurry and the garlic infused oil is great.

After my morning hair appointment, I went out to the garden to do some more clean up. Finally decided where onions and garlic are going. Started to pull the creeping charlie out that had started to take over. That came out pretty easy. Decided to start digging the beds and adding some compost and chicken poop. Haha, silly me. That ground is so dry it's like concrete. We haven't had any rain in a few weeks. Was able to get the shovel in and dig part of the bed, but it just wasn't worth the struggle, plus it's 83 degrees and sunny. It can wait. Came in and watered houseplants instead.

Four broad, flat, thick, strong tines. They look like this. www.acehardware.com/departments/lawn-and-garden/gardening-tools/gardening-hand-tools/70091They're great for breaking up hard ground, although obviously labor intensive. This spring I used one to break up my new garden - the tiller couldn't do it! To old, hard, dry, and compact, similar to yours.

I will probably have to soak the ground good in order to dig garlic bed. There are 1" cracks in the soil and it's concrete hard.
Yesterday I cooked down a pot of tomatoes to paste. Took all day and ended up with about 4 cups of it. Made a instant pot full of Kraut/Potato soup which turned out perfect.
Sis and I are heading out around 7:00 to go to the Amish area, might even venture as far as Balltown on the Mississippi River where there is a "feed" store that also sells local produce, like squash and potatoes. My squash was a total bust this year. Balltown is also the home to the oldest restaurant/bar in Iowa, population is around 100. Picturesque views of the Mississippi too.

Did some sightseeing in North Carolina Thursday morning then we mutually agreed that we were ready to head home. Stayed in Clarksville Tennessee that night before heading to Duquoin Illinois so that sweetheart could visit her 97 year old aunt that was just put on hospice. My head was stuffed up and I was feeling like total c__p by the time we got home so sweetheart unloaded everything while took refuge in my chair. Sweetheart picked up Ruby and fussed over me the rest of the day. Like Dorthy said”there’s no place like home”……

Yesterday was a doctor appointment for me, pay property taxes, renew vehicle tags, and shop two grocery stores. In the middle of that, we had lunch at a new to us Thai restaurant. Hubby said his beef noodle soup was really good. I ordered catfish with veggies served with broth and rice. My meal was tasty, but I wasn’t expecting whole catfish. I dislike dealing with fish bones. I’ll read the menu more carefully next time. I was pleased to see they had good customer traffic, both in dine in customers as well as takeout.
Grocery shopping was a big order. After we got all bags inside the house, I sorted and put away the perishables. Then, I crashed.
No gardening…

Sis and I had a great day yesterday. Got to Hazelton around 0830. Found a map of the area and the exploring began. First stop was Mums. Amazing. Rows and rows of the biggest ones I've ever seen. Some just beginning to bloom. $10 each as compared to $40 or more at stores. We also scored a watermelon at the same place for $3.00, a huge one. Our favorite general store had closed last year, apparently the female owner married so had to give up the business. We did find other general stores though. Once again sis was in charge of the map. At one point I told her I would get an inner tube and put her in the Wapsipinicon River and she could float all the way home!!! The Wapsi goes near her house..... We eventually ran out of money, you need cash to go there, they don't take credit cards. Never made it to Balltown, it was noon before we knew it. No restaurants in the area either, so we stopped at a bakery, those are only open on Saturdays, and grabbed a quick no-no. Got home around 2:30 and crashed in our chairs for a nap. Later went out and picked beans, edible and dry. Will need to water broccoli today. Going to Dad's this afternoon to deliver the salsa and pickles I made for them last week.

in the Wapsipinicon River So that may explain the origin of the tomato Wapsipinicon peach. Took me forever to get the spelling straight.

Made basil pesto for the first time. A bit too much cheese for my taste. I think that next time I'll make a plain basil and oil mix, then add pine nuts, cheese, etc. when I take it out of the freezer.
Truth be told, I'm more of a tomato pesto fan.

Yesterday I power washed the outside carpet on the deck. It was dry by this afternoon so I rolled it up and put it away for the winter. Today I power washed the deck, or at least most of it. Tomorrow I'll take every thing off the deck and really wash it. Won't put the table and chairs away yet. It's going to be dry and in the 80's for at least another week. Might as well enjoy it. Will empty some of the flower pots, but will eventually put some of the pots in the greenhouse just to see how long I can keep them into the cold weather. After church last night, our parish participated in a Latino Heritage festival. So much fun and such good food. Even got to dance with our pastor.
