Yesterday was another goof of day. Took the boat out and went up to the Chain-O-Lakes for the day. Just a beautiful warm, sunny day. Had lunch at a restaurant on the water. When we got home, hubby was beat, so he took a nap. I checked on the garden and picked more green beans and a few San Marzano's. Potato's didn't do well this year, so I just turned over the soil and added some compost. Pulled the last of the onions. They are nice and dry and sitting on racks in the garage in front of a fan. It was a good day.

Today was a Food Pantry day, as their recent published list was chock full of requests for basics, which means they must be running low. So we hit Walmart around 8:30 a.m. & filled a cart with flour, sugar, cornmeal, vegetable oil, mayo, ketchup, mustard, rice side mixes, & different flavors of Spam.
(Made me feel less guilty & almost justified picking up two trays of frozen imported French Escargot in garlic butter from Lidl for Thursday's dinner in honor of Julia Child's birthday - lol!)

I don't know why this post ended up on this thread - I hadn't even been on the thread earlier. Oh well...corrected. It was nice out today, and I got a bunch done. Started mowing yesterday, while in the shade, and finished while the front and side were shaded today. We're back into a dry spell here, which is a good thing, when it comes to mowing!

Worked (again) at the rental property. Mostly pulled weeds that the monsoons seem to drop directly from the sky. Trimmed up a low arching palo verde tree. Grabbed some of the seed pods to try and propagate...is that a "You Might be a Gardener" thing?

What a trip!! The flight from Des Moines to Denver was great til it was time to land. Extreme turbulence and rough landing. I wasn't even nervous though. First 2 1/2 days were great, got some things done and things we wanted to do/see. By Friday afternoon I was fatigued, dry cough, chills and headache, felt like lead in my feet. We had gone from 6500 ft to 10,000 ft elevation that day, to Cripple Creek. Thought it had something to do with altitude, but by Saturday I was no better. DS said I wasn't acting like myself, went and got a covid test, POSITIVE. C.R.A.P..........I had slept 15 hours straight. DS insisted we go to Urgent Care. Very efficient place, much more so than Iowa.....Very nice nurses and drs. Ended up with RX for Paxlovid. After 3 doses was feeling much better. Sunday was able to go with DS to hike about 1.5 miles, slight incline. He did lots of solo hiking Sat/Sun. Numerous trails near our Airbnb. Dr said there are no restrictions to fly with Covid, just mask up. That was good to hear, had no desire to drive all the way home. Made it through the Denver airport to our gate, no small feat!!! Glad we got there early and had TSA pre-check. Easy and efficient. DS never showed any symptoms.
The weather there was less than ideal too. Cold, foggy, drizzly first 2 days. But we made the best of our "lemon" situation. We were very close to important things like Starbucks and a grocery/pharmacy and Old Colorado City with numerous restaurants. Things happen or don't happen for a reason, as DS said. Gee, I wonder who taught him that.........
I will have to pick tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and beans today. I did a quick look last night, the cukes and crookneck have sprouted. Lost count of how many bags of tomatoes are in the freezer. Will do what I can and take things easy this week.

Wow Mumsey, you had a full range of experiences! Do you think you got it on the plane or airport? Ive heard wonder-stories about Paxlovid. Another reminder to take it easy a while longer.

What an adventure Mumsey! Hubby was prescribed Paxlovid when he had COVID pneumonia last winter. Made an incredible difference.

Picked beans and the first paste tomatoes last evening. Put tomatoes in the freezer and took beans to mom today. One variety was a trial bean that I've been a bit perplexed about preparing. Evidently it's a Romano type and I'm totally unfamiliar so I picked a selection of beans in different stages and discovered that smaller is better when eating in the green bean stage. Flavor was good though and production has been through the roof considering I only have five plants. Paste tomatoes are so bushy that I literally had to get down on the ground to search for tomatoes. I told myself last year that I'd never again put two rows in the same bed again, but the new bed was wider... Harvested a dozen Corbaci peppers simply because the plants are loaded and the weight is bending them down. Tomorrow evening is open house at school and we're setting up a PTO information table so I'll get there early. Also planning to have a chat with principal and special needs teacher concerning the incident where the therapist took kiddo's doll away and let them know that I'll have no tolerance for that this year. Had to get a prescription for an additional snack and cook is throwing a fit about it so I have a feeling she and I will butt heads as well. I am looking forward to meeting the new teacher and having hubby bring kiddo towards the end so they can have some one-on-one time together. I think the administrative changes at school have been positive and am hoping for an eventless year, but I also expect compliance.

Started the day going into town, stopping at the library for a couple of books and doing the 2 week grocery shop. After the first grocery stop I got the call that my car body repair is completed and I could pick it up anytime. So I beelined for the car rental shop, turned in the rental and had them drop me off at the repair shop. So good to be back in my car. Cost to me was zero, as the other driver was at fault and his insurance paid the bills. Finished the rest of the grocery shopping, stopped at one of my favorite spots in two different arroyos that I call "the rock store" and picked up the last two rocks to finish an outline of the native grass along our lane. Came home and placed the rocks and snipped a few of the bindweeds that crept back.
Yesterday we worked on the kitchen wood floor again and stripped two more sections- that's 3 down, 4 to go. Tomorrow is round 3. Hope to get 2 more sections done.

Prayers and positive thoughts for a quick and complete recovery from that Covid, Mumsey! And take it easy, as much as you can. Easier said than done.

Pretty much layed around yesterday. Not feeling hungry, mostly from doing nothing. Have to do dog poo patrol this morning. My snow/lawn guy is coming to mow back yard. He stopped by yesterday to see about removing the bushes. Told him in a couple weeks we could do that. He is refusing any payment for mowing while I was gone, but I saw him eye-balling the onions drying in the garage! I might cook up some tomatoes today, we'll see how much energy I have later.

Made a couple of pints of desertwoman -ish tomato sauce, reduced down from 3 or 4 quarts of tomatos (lotta lotta water). Have about one inch to the top of each. Chilling in straight sided jars in the fridge, will put in the freezer later.
I used a stainless steel pot instead of cast iron to avoid potential metallic taste issues - I've had it happen before. It's usually OK if they only cook for a few minutes, but an hour or more is a whole 'nuther kettle o' fish, at least in my experience. Besides, none of my cast iron skillets are big enough to hold that much. I could have used a cast iron dutch oven, but again, I didn't want to take any chances on the taste. I'm not sure, but I think that salt kinda counteracts this. Gotta go back and read up again.
I added a bunch of caramelized onion, a bit of salt, and basil. How is it? Ask me in January.
Harvested some more tomatos. Grapes going bonkers, "regular" slowing down, Roma finally setting fruit - they got an even later start than the rest of the garden, as other projects and whatnot took higher priority. I'll make more sauce with the Roma if they pan out, but in a more pureed fashion with probably fewer ingredients.
The good news is that the big/expensive projects for my new abode are done, and I now have "only" the small/inexpensive (relative term, cough) projects left, which I can get around to when I darn well feel like it.
Also dug out 90% or so of the barrier cloth around the well so stuff will start growing there. Baby steps, inch by inch...
