Not getting much done today either. 3 year granddaughter here. The little plastic pool and sandbox keeps her busy for a little while, but not long enough to start and finish anything. I look at it as time well spent though. They grow up so fast and this is probably the last of the grandchildren. We ran to the dollar store to buy some sand toys and I managed to water the pots on the deck. Noticed a couple of cucumbers popping up, wonder if they'll make it or get eaten too.

Saw a couple of clients at the office (our house in town) and worked in the gardens there. Dead headed and lightly pruned 4 rose bushes, weeded some flower beds, deadheaded jupiter beard, iris and columbine. It rained off and on but mostly not hard enough to drive me indoors. I had to take advantage of the cooler day.

Now I can turn on and off where I take the hose. Why didn't I think of that years ago???? They are quite a game changer aren't they?

Barely four tenths of an inch of rain last night so things were a little on the damp side this morning so I decided to trim back the roses whose flowers are looking shabby. Gave them some rose food and a good watering in hopes of them flowering out again. Thursday I investigated the lack of germination of everything that I had planted 2 weeks ago but had a couple of hard driving rains the next couple of days that created a crust and the wetness kept me out of the garden. Nothing spouted so tomorrow morning early I’ll do an inventory of what I have left for seeds and make a quick trip to my favorite seed store to get what ever I feel I’m short of. Green beans, cucumbers, zucchini and squash all need replanting, to say I’m devastated is an understatement. But as they say gardeners are the eternal optimists….. 😂

Now I can turn on and off where I take the hose. Why didn't I think of that years ago???? Speaking of hoses, it wasn't until less than 10 years ago, that I discovered to figure-eight the hose rather than to coil it. Why didn't I think of that years ago?

Got the back yard mowed yesterday. Then enjoyed the perfect weather, sat on deck and read all afternoon. After going to the library.

Kiddo and I joined mom on a trek to town where she had a few errands to do. Ate at the Chinese restaurant and kiddo sure got her money's worth as she ate just about everything on her plate and even ate Jello for the first time ever. A trip to Walmart afterwards and then to another grocery store for cubed steak for Father's Day dinner and back home. I've been in anticipation of the white to rose geraniums as mine seem to be taking their sweet time opening but alas, Mom's was blooming and we stood in awe of it. It was an awesome day!
Still getting motivated today as kiddo and I were both up way past midnight and I think it was 3:00 before I went to bed.

Proving that I'm part Englishman, I fooled around in the 96-degree mid-day sun for a good while. Picked summer squash, picked (and ate) the last of the snap peas, and inspected the tomatoes and peppers, which are setting fruit left and right. Also checked out the freak hybrid yellow squash, big as a football, growing next to the compost. I'm going to pull/dig the garlic this evening. While I was out there, I discovered a tiny deer fawn lying in the shade next to the pool. It seemed to be in distress, unable to get up and breathing laboriously. The Mama was nowhere around (that we could see). We offered it a pan of water and left it alone for the time being.

Went for our early walk, brisk South breeze, felt chilly, but good! Planted some broccoli seeds in the basement for Fall crop. Made a shade of sorts for the Hydrangea in the garden, it always gets fried leaves in extreme heat. This is the first year that it looks like it will bloom. Made garlic scape pesto, had a few left and they went to compost. Went for another walk this afternoon, still breezy and more humid so it was only a few blocks. Picked a good mess of Oregon Giant pea pods, tonight will be roasted veggies on the grill. Cauliflower, peppers, mushrooms, peas and onions. Still using onions from last year, haven't had a bad one yet. Gotta love Patterson!
Mixed up some spice mixes I keep on hand, fajita, taco, adobo, thai. Was getting low on them all.

Update on the tiny fawn: Contacted the state DNR and was put in touch with a nearby wildlife rescue group who came and picked it up. The kind lady checked it, and said she would get the little one stable and hydrated, and return it tomorrow.

Wheelgarden, Do you think the mama (if she is even around) will accept the baby after it is returned, or reject it since humans have gotten involved? I have no idea, but that thought just crossed my mind. Lucky little one to have landed in your garden.

We got the drip irrigation set up in the veggie garden. No more hand watering, which is what I do early on since there are some bare spots until the tomatoes and peppers are in and I don't want to waste the water. Since I rotated crops this year, we had to re-position drip lines and emitters so it took longer. Also, had to make a trip to town to get some things for the reconfiguration so stopped for a pastry on the way home. Visited with a neighbor who just had cancer surgery 5 days ago. She is amazing, taking walks and enjoying her days and has a great mental approach. She is one of those all-heart people.

Do you think the mama (if she is even around) will accept the baby after it is returned, or reject it since humans have gotten involved? The rescue groups know what they are doing. I watched a video where a rescue group released a fawn in an area where there are a lot of mothers and played a distress call given by fawns. Invariably a doe will answer the call and adopt the fawn and raise it alongside her own.

Waited for rain to pass early yesterday morning, then went for walk. Putzed around the house til time to go to Dad's. Came home and toured garden, pulled some weeds. Things are growing fast with the humidity and warm nights, 76* right now at 0515 am.
Decided to get on treadmill late afternoon, sweat through a mile. Working on building stamina for mountain environment. Going to walk very soon, before the sun peeks up. Then have to go this afternoon and take Dad to dr. appt.

Transplanted a Santa Rita cactus cutting, planted seeds of verbena, marigolds and sunflower. Previous sunflowers have sprouted...yay. Deep soaked potted plants...wind is wicked today. Tomorrow I need to take implements of destruction to the rental property and dispatch some weeds.
