Had a great 3 mile walk this morning at 0615. 55*. Came home and watered all pots, after I went to Farm Fleet to get a hose shut off for the end of the hose. Decided I'm not hauling endless buckets of water for watering. Now I can turn on and off where I take the hose. Why didn't I think of that years ago???? This is lull time for yard/garden work. I can just wander around and watch things grow! Talk to the slackers, pull a weed here and there....... On the list for the day is one thing. Turn a pair of pants into shorts. That should take all of 15 minutes. I could clean house, but will save that for later in week when it's too hot to be outside.

I did some watering, & then Mr. Breezy helped me cut & position a new larger swathe of insect-weight Agribon floating row cover to envelop my fast-growing broccoli plants. (Already have the first button-size head forming on one!) Then Mr. Breezy continued on with his ongoing weed-whacking projects while I continued on simmering down a nice pot of chicken broth/stock.

Yesterday and today I transplanted a couple barrel cactus, pulled a Mexican fan palm out, raked and cleared debris that had blown in and covered some snake holes. Irrigated deeply all the citrus and fruit trees. Something ate a couple of my pepper plants down to the nub. The other peppers are definitely NOT Ancho/Poblano as labeled. Aw Shishito!

We're having some trees removed from behind the house today. They are very tall and hand over the deck. When it's windy, not only are they messy, but dangerously close to falling into the house. A branch cracked off a few years ago and hit the house gutter. So in my head I know this is a good thing, but not in my heart. I'll miss them, and it's not like we don't have anymore trees.

Spent a couple of hours starting to repair the damage from the hail storm 2 days ago. Cut off lots of broken stems on perennials, deadheaded flowers that had been destroyed by the hail. Pulled a tomato plant and 2 chiles that were beaten to the ground- not a leaf to be had. Will continue tomorrow with the clean up.

In the last two days I've managed to get the ten fingers of Naples tomatoes in the ground. Found a tiny hornworm on one and squashed it and added to the planting hole. Fence isn't up yet so found enough scrap fencing to protect them for the time being. Couldn't figure out why I was so sore yesterday until I remembered taking a tumble backwards when a piece of wood chip covered cardboard tore when I was trying to pull it back to slide a new piece underneath. Hubby had a doctor's appointment yesterday and there was a totally free yard sale advertised, so of course we went early enough to stop by. Found a small metal table that I can use in the garden, some copper hooks that will be used in the garden shed, two old snow shovels and a canvas log carrier. Really had my eye on an old vinyl covered kitchen chair but decided against it. Grandma had a large plastic cauldron planter by her front door for many years and I decided that I needed to use it this year. Filled it with a purple wave petunia, a white geranium and Persian shield and ornamental sweet potatoes both from overwintered cuttings. Still have snapdragons and impatiens to plant so hopefully in the next few days. Emptied and cleaned up the mineral tub I use for watering the new garden but it was getting dark and I didn't get around to refilling it. In 30 minutes I'm off for the last dinner our organization is doing until October and I'm so glad! Anniversary celebration for quilt guild tomorrow evening and nothing else planned except a doctor's appointment for the rest of the month!

Got shopping done and step mom to the graveside service. After that we stopped at the big truck stop nearby and had a hot fudge sundae from McD's. Haven't been there in years. Was in a sugar coma all the way home.
This morning we left for walk at 0610. Starting to get humid and today promises to be very hot. Have only run the AC 2 times so far, holding off as long as possible. Cleaning kitchen cupboards this morning. Neighbor is gone for a few days so I'm watching her cat, Earl Grey.
Going out to do poop duty and check on plants in pots. That's it for gardening today.

Cleared out some black wood chips that appear to have been charred. Spread those out in a drainage area. Deep watered the citrus and other fruit trees. Peach is looking good, but the plums that had formed are now gone. Planted some dwarf sunflowers in containers. Making plans to attend a "Lavender Festival" this Saturday south east of here. Other than that, still working on getting the rental place in Tucson ready.

Wednesday watering from the acequia madre, while I continued to dead head and cut off broken stems from the hail storm a couple of days ago. Then we drove to Albuquerque for Q's bimonthly treatment with one of his Chinese Medicine/acupuncture teachers from all those years ago. It was even hotter down there! Got home around 6:30PM watered the new native grass sprouts and chatted with a new neighbor that we just met for the first time.

Haven’t got much done the last couple of days as my lifelong best friend from Texas has been here. Tuesday I picked up my buddy and we took a drive to a new, to us, fishing spot. Beautiful weather and hungry fish were just the ticket for a great time until the borrowed boats trolling motor conked out. I hope no one videod me trying to maneuver that boat around with one canoe type paddle! We caught a nice mess of bass and large fat bluegills so even the frustration of trying to row around couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces.
Yesterday I hung out with my buddy for a while in the morning before taking him back to his sisters house. Returning home I jumped on the mower to catch up on lawn maintenance. Got that done just in time to get cleaned up and go to a visitation for the husband of sweetheart’s cousin. Following the visitation we made a quick trip to Bloomington for a birthday party at a Mexican restaurant.
Today with sweetheart at work it’s all about catching up on things around here……

Humid so at 0530 we headed out for our walk. Nice before the sun got too high. Been doing a whole lot of nothing today, finished a series on Netflix "Man in Full". If you watch it keep Charlie's right hand in the back of your mind, it will be his un-doing! Toured the garden and yard, cleaned up poo and straggling dandelions. I'm thinking they should stop blooming any day now.
The only thing garden related I'm doing is thinking about starting Fall broccoli in the basement. I did go to my favorite small town greenhouse this morning, didn't see a thing I could use. Rather, I didn't see the right price yet at this point in the season! Got to the car and went to put my credit card away and couldn't find it. Great, must have dropped it when I was fishing in pocket for phone. Good thing I checked....found it laying on the floor of the greenhouse. Close call!

I did the same lot of nothing today. Spent an hour , early this AM, watering seeds, picking some of the last lettuce and cleaning out some beds but it's too hot to spend any length of time out there. I hung out under the ceiling fan, read, watched a movie. I had an incident a few days ago. I was at the Food Coop when my name was paged. I couldn't figure out who knew I was there and would be calling the store to page me. I got to the customer service desk and the woman said "Do you have a red prius?" "yes" I replied. "this was just turned in" It was my wallet! I didn't even know it was missing from my purse!! I must have had it in my lap, looking for something and when I got out of the car it dropped to the pavement, unnoticed by me. The clientele at the coop are conscientious, community minded people. There are some good folks in the world.

With great intentions I started the day doing the daily outside chores along with watering the outside potted plants. An unplanned, by me, trip to the beauty parlor for Ruby was the first detour of my plans for the day. Returning home I wanted to till the lower garden in preparation for planting sweethearts pumpkins and such. While tilling I got a call from the FIL wanting me to help him put new blades on his mower. Not being able to say no I finished tilling and headed his way. Even though things went pretty well it seems they always take longer than it should. Then in appreciation he had to take me to lunch which again is never an eat and go event but let’s visit with whoever is there type thing. Returning home sweetheart’s brother stopped by to pick up our golf cart to take camping this weekend. I’m not crazy about loaning it out but it seems like a no win situation. Now it’s time to pick up Ruby so again I’m not getting anything done that I need to do and that’s how my day went…….

Didn't do much except water plants and fill kiddo's pool yesterday. I can tell her pool is not near as exciting as it used to be, especially after playing in our friend's larger pool but no plans to buy anything bigger for at least a year or two. Worked on prepping snacks for the quilt guild celebration throughout the day and took kiddo to mom and dad's for a few hours while I attended the party. It was spectacular and I feel fortunate to be amongst a great group of ladies (and a gentleman).
So far today I've strained some pond water both for debris and because I didn't realize there were some small tadpoles in the old pond. Then I potted seed geraniums that I've already earmarked as keepers and then planted the stacking planters with impatiens. From there I intended to pull enough weeds to make room for some snapdragons but basically weeded the equivalent of one bed as I sat in the path and alternated between beds. Already approaching 80° and kiddo and I may go on a road trip with Mom as it's going to be a scorcher outside.
