Finished planting the last of the garlic today. Just need to put some chicken fertilizer over the last two rows and then cover the beds with hay. Now working inside on making more hand holes in the tomato cages and using my new files to smooth them down. Ruined so many shirts this year snagging them on the small wire projections from where the wire was cut. Last radiation treatment tomorrow morning. WooHoo!

emmsmommy, I have Gingher spring loaded scissors, but they are the big ones and still hard to use for very long. If I do more of these quilts, I'll invest in a lighter weight version! I found sniping the short seams after sewing the rows works well, before adding the rows to the quilt. 4 rows to go!! Worked on it off and on today.

Went for 2.5 mile walk this afternoon, before the forecast colder air moved in. Worked on the rag quilt off and on most of the day.

Today I experienced a deeper meaning to "while the cat's away, the mice will play". While Quinn , Elie and I were in California a pair of mice moved in and had the run of the kitchen. Their entrees of choice: they nibbled through plastic bottles and consumed Chinese herbs, tore apart wrappers of Ricola cough drops and devoured those, munched on dried flowers and a few red chiles on the counter and ran through every drawer in the kitchen snagging whatever crumbs they could find,
The big concern, here, is Hanta Virus from deer mouse droppings and urine. So today we masked and gloved up, emptied every drawer, sprayed a 10:1 water:bleach solution and wiped up droppings, then did a second spray/wipe. Washed every pot, pan, lids colanders, etc, 3 drawers full of various utensils, Also had to wipe down under the kitchen sink and one cupboard with baking dishes, woks, dutch oven. Also had to spray/ wipe down under the second bathroom cupboard (5 ft long) that had the herbs.
When we were done clothes went immediately in to the washer, and us into the shower.
Took is nearly 3 hours. It was kind of a draining day dealing with this.

desertwoman, Next time you will have to leave behind another kind of "cat"......a mousetrap or two! Knock on wood, we have never had a mouse in this house, except for the computer mouse which The Princess promptly chewed to pieces on one of her first days with us! I don't know which would be worse, having to clean everything or having to replace all your herbs.

It's been an enjoyable two weeks of coughing but I would much rather find something better to do with my time! Cheryl and I both had it, acute bronchitis is the label they put on it. It seems like nothing would get rid of the cough, though. I had one prescription and when I looked it up, I discovered it would interact adversely with one of my current medications. You would think the doctors and pharmacists, because they maintain data on my prescriptions, would have something in place to flag such potential interactions but nothing came up. Today was my six-month cancer follow-up visit, and the CT scan returned negative, so it's been 2-1/2 years since my cancer surgery. My doctor is head of the division/ surgeon/ professor and quite knowledgeable. We spend a lot of time talking about food and cooking during our visits and although we both tend to eat organically, he seems to have no reservations about eating meat. I tend to keep it out of my diet as much as possible. I guess at some point we will become enlightened and discover our real reason for being here.

organicgroup.freeforums.net/post/156810/threadGreat news about your negative scan and hope any future scans are clear as well. I think eating organically is very smart for overall health and to prevent disorders. Our society has gotten away from eating fresh and wholesome foods so even doing some changes to better eating has to be good for us. We were fortunate to find a ranch in our state that has grass fed beef, so we buy from them. More expensive than the grocery store but overall has no hormones or other things. We also buy organic chicken and other meat as well.

Went for last radiation treatment today. Get to choose music for each session, so I usually pick something around fifteen minutes long to fit the length of the session. Told them I really wanted a particular piece, but it was way too short. Sure enough, as the table was moving out of the machine, the music shifted and I heard: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5a6IT32v2YWas laughing so much- didn't expect them to go to the trouble. They should play that for everyone with a sense of humor at their last session. Would also be good at the end of the world (the porky pig version).
