yeatster ,in the last picture, it looks as if (a) the plants are in plastic, and (b) they're sitting directly on a porch of some kind, with no water spots underneath them. This makes me wonder if there are holes in the pots, and if they're getting direct sun. I don't know that these issues might contribute to the plants' issues that concern you, but am just wondering. I do see a lot of healthy plants though.

They are kewl with it though. As for direct sun, no...they get about 6-7 hours of morning sun that is partly shaded at times from the railing and trees I will up pot and move them soon. And thank you!

Look at all those babies! Looking good yeatster, It would be helpful if you list your general location/growing zone in your signature line so that we can know, at a glance, where you are gardening. Go to Profile>Edit Profile>Personal>Signature Done. I think. 😁 thank you!

January 1 I planted a couple of tomato seeds in a pot and grew them in the window sill. They just now gave me a couple of little red tomatoes.

Growing tomatoes here at 5000 ft elevation in Northern Utah, is a real challenge. We do not have long enough season for them to get ripe. So you have to start them indoors for later transplanting out, or go buy some starts at the seed store. Then come first of September you may have to cover them up with visqueen to keep them from freezin as they ripen. It is probably easier to go to the store and buy some. But nothin like home grown tomatoes?

Growing tomatoes here at 5000 ft elevation in Northern Utah, is a real challenge. Have you tried the Sub-Arctic Plenty tomato? It was developed in Canada for Canadian growers. Fifty-five days from transplant to harvest. It has small, acid fruit. I like the flavor and grow some every year.

I see lots of tomatoes in pots. Are you going to plant them in the ground? You know the roots of the plant go to 3 feet deep or more and spread as wide underground as the foliage does above ground. Growing them in a pot really restricts their growth.

"Do you know what variety of tomatoes, James?"
I think they were "Sweet Baby Girl".

Growing them in a pot really restricts their growth. I dont have a safe place to plant in the ground so pots are the plan. I realize it will restrict growth and I'm okay with that.

yeatster, OK, we do the best we can with what we have to work with. Just plant and enjoy. Please share your experience. We love to hear what others are doing.
