Binnylou, I wonder if there is a way for you to recruit some local gardeners to your cause that could help you accomplish the tasks you can't do from your golf cart. I am astounded at your perseverance and dedication to get your gardening done. At the same time, I wish you lived closer because I want to help you with what you can't do. I can't help but imagine that a local gardener would feel the same way I do.

Binnylou, I wonder if there is a way for you to recruit some local gardeners to your cause I've thought about this...but I take joy in what others would call working in the garden. It's my passion. Plus I worry about liability. I still need to call the tree people and see if they have somebody in their crew that can clean volunteers out of the windbreak. I've been working on that for a few years, but caved last year. Damned mulberries. And the grandkids will be here early August. I plan to lay in a supply of 1's and 5's and bribe them. I know that Cade, 11, knows how to sift compost...we did that together a few years ago. And Elisha, soon to be 9 is probably going to be my little gardener. I'm hoping that she and I working together can put down paper blocking (newspaper, cereal boxes, junk mail, financial reports, etc) and top it with wood mulch. That would be for the flower garden. I've been working at lighting her fire...sent her some pansy seeds for winter sowing...sent her home with marigold seeds at Christmas time. And she has learned about pollinating tomatoes with a Q-Tip. Reese, 13, is she old enough to learn to drive the golf cart and transport compost? She has led a sheltered life...they all have.

Binny- I would have loved driving a golf cart at 13. Hopefully she is adventurous enough....

Binny- I would have loved driving a golf cart at 13. Hopefully she is adventurous enough... The kids love riding on the golf cart. A few years ago, they knew I was going to use it and they beat me out of the house and were loaded on before I got out of the house. I assumed the position and the youngest says "drive"....that's all she said...just "drive". We still giggle about that.

campmor's catalog sells a couple of headnets pretty cheap. Fortunately, I don't need them around the house. Just for trips.

Binny, that's kind of what I meant. I am also a person who enjoys pulling weeds and pruning and mulching. Maybe there is another kindred gardening spirit close to your house that would enjoy that kind of work, too. Your grand kids may enjoy it, too.

That IS a lovely picture, DW! Boy, were you young then. I would never have been able to put my hands on a 15 yr old picture.
About weeding and stuff....I really do NOT enjoying the weeding part...pruning, shaping, mulching yes...but what I like best of all is how it comes together, presentable, puuuurrrty! And it's nice to see that my girls are into plants and some gardening as well.

I think I get the same satisfaction from weeding as I do from cleaning. I do enjoy it. I put on music or an audio book on my ipod, or I just listen to the birds chirping and the bees buzzing and think.

I think I get the same satisfaction from weeding as I do from cleaning. I do enjoy it. Yup...me too. And since I've been out of commission since before Christmas time, I'm trying to catch up on the cleaning. Today, my big accomplishment was to clean under and behind the fridge. It did involve help from hubby to pull the fridge out into the room so I could clean behind it. But it's done and I can cross it off my list. As for weeding, there is a sense of satisfaction when I pull on the weed and hear the roots giving way. Love it!

I haven't had a hip replacement and I need help moving the fridge to clean behind it. You must be Wonder Woman!
