Here is a photo of my first ripe tomatoes! They are Black Cherry tomatoes. They taste sooo goooood. The little green things under them in the bowl are Mouse Melon/Mexican Sour Gherkin cucumbers. first_tomatoes_mouse_melons by Purpleplum Radish, on Flickr

Just a convenient place to store the little guys...all in one bowl on the counter.

I don't remember when I started picking, but I posted about having BLT's for supper that night. We have had BLTs at least one more time & sliced maters nearly every day for supper...and on sandwiches for lunches. About 3 days ago I picked 20 and the next day picked another 12. I've got some in the freezer already and a bunch more coming on!

Picked 5 cherry tomatoes today. Can't believe how good they are compared to store bought.

My first ripe tomato was a Black Cherry a couple of weeks ago. Very good, but I must have boughten a variant or hybridized plant because although it was a nice dark red and rich-flavored, it was (along with its siblings) distinctly plum-shaped and thick-fleshed. Good nonetheless! Now I'm finally harvesting some softball-sized Cherokee Purples and Big Beefs. Mmmmmmmmm....

Here are my first two German Johnson tomatoes. . Are German Johnsons quite often a double fruit? I've never grown or tasted. Just wondering.

Hi Binnylou, I've never kept track. Some of them do turn out like the one on the left. But I find that some of all of the larger varieties of all of the tomatoes I grow turn out like that. I would say that most do not. Most are the standard round shape like the one on the right. I love the taste of German Johnson. It's a good, classic, tomato taste and a good producer.

I picked my blushing tomato thinking it was "ripe enough" for a cooked dish - but when I got it inside, I though it was not, so letting it ripen on the counter - it looked 'riper' next to all the green ones!
....now - amongst my 15 tomato plants out there - vigorous and full of the tomtoms - nary a one is even blushing....
back to waiting......and waiting....
......and waiting....
......and waiting....
