Most days, I love everything about my life. And then there are days like today.
One of the new chicks has some type of paralysis and is slowly dying; aside from my inordinate grief over a chicken, I am worried this is something contagious like Marek's and will spread to the rest of the flock.
15 tomatoes - all with blossom end rot.
Wax bean plants - produced a small crop, then immediately died in the heat.
Summer squash - produced new fruit, killed in heat, rain has revived the plants but it looks like it may be too late.
Potatoes - decimated by potato beetles
Peppers - just....stunted.
Basil - also stunted
On the plus side, cucumbers look great!!

I wouldn't be surprised if there will be BER here as the tomatoes that are now growing has been during some sort of weather thingy where we are getting rain every other day but it rains so hard that the plants are being pelted in short bursts of raindrops and it can go on several times throughout the day.
Basil too isn't growing much here. Squashes are slow, starting to pick up.
Rabbits finishing off the peas...getting nothing there. I put a fence around the beans so hopefully I saved them.
Luckily potatoes are untouched by bugs...unusual....makes me wonder when they will land....when I am not looking!

Lost more than half of my strawberries to critters taking one bite and leaving. Big beautiful berries wasted. Something chewing on cucumber plants but the green beans looking good. I wanted to post pictures but can't find my camera anywhere. Been looking for it for a week now.

When you stop looking for it, you'll find it. I misplaced my iPod music earphones..I wear them when I'm gardening) went up to my brothers 2 months later..they were hanging on a post..outside in the sun and rain all that time..and they still WORKED!

I wanted to post pictures but can't find my camera anywhere. Been looking for it for a week now. hoep you didn't leave it in the garden with all this rain! When I was moving aside the winter mulch of fall leaves for planting - found a lost pair of glasses I left out in the fall!

nc- it is so disappointing when we lose so much in one season. It's a tough year for so many of us. At least we can all commiserate about our woes.

I've had my fill of piss ants I had an invasion of the tiny little red ants...marching across my kitchen counter. Tried wiping the counters with vinegar...no, that didn't work. Finally put out some drops of Terro on foil. Ants looked like cattle bellied up to the feed bunker. And then they were gone....now in hubby's bathroom downstairs :(

They are terrible out there.
I am only out there in the garden a minute, and they are crawling on my shoes. I am going to have to do something DRASTIC to get rid of them.
I have NEVER seen this in my life here.
It is dreadful!

I'm having loads of ants too, they seem to like the pine bark mulch I'm using for the veggie beds.... :(
but - I don't know what kind they are.
I had my brother do a bunch of caulking in the kitchen to try to keep them out.

Baby powder repels ants very nicely. Give it a whirl! Sprinkle outside seals, door jams around their beds etc. Have'em marching to another area. Basically sprinkle any place you see them, mulch beds, plants, fruit.(I sprinkle tomatoes that I have resting on a porch shelf that have not quite finished turning and have been knocked off the plant).
