May actually go in for one of them pedicures you womens keep raving about I just got one yesterday and my feet are soft, pretty and feel great. There was a man a few chairs away from me getting his feet done too. I wear flip flops all summer but I wouldn't garden barefoot if you paid me. I have slip on sneakers for working in the dirt. There are too many bugs, rocks and microbes in the soil to make me want to walk on them barefoot! I wear garden gloves on my hands for the same reasons. I love to cook and I hate seeing dirty looking hands in the kitchen.

Def ck with your extension service. I contacted mine here in CT and it is an issue of priorities as to where the $$ goes. they plan budgets years before but if they know there have been requests, they'll put them on the list.

trying to figure out my plan for this weekend. I'm feeling relatively low energy so just want to do enough for progress.
I need supplies from 2 or 3 different spots for the most immediate plans, but I'm disinclined to go shopping.....more of a curl up with a book day feeling....
I'll do the smoothie early this day!

It rained here this morning so everything is wet and muddy. I need to get out there and pull weeds. They'll come up easy.

I should have tried harder yesterday! it's a monsoon out there.
I was too lazy, I hurriedly did some outdoor painting before the rain came.....but, I could have gotten more gardening done if I'd tried a bit harder....
Welp - at least I don't need to water anything. :^/ I won't need to water anything for a very long time, at least according to the 10 day forecast.....this particular rain should last everything for a while, so I'm ready to send the clouds elsewhere, O rain makers!.
Hope everyone has enough water!

I just reread this thread.
Has the spirit of some of you picked up?
Octave, are you happy again?
Has everyone done something that made them happy?

Yes lisa, I am happy again. Lots of veggies, more than I anticipated! I am also not exhausting myself with garden work anymore. What's done is done, now is "results" time! Best time of the year ever!

sigh!
I'm really surprised by how little is coming through for me based on what I've put in. It is August - so the count down is on - and still not a single squash?
My tromonetta has to have 50-100 foot of vines and I have not seen one female bud open. I can't even begin to imagine how that works. Plenty of female buds - they all just whither......meanwhile the vine is putting on a few feet daily.
I've spent countless hours searching and searching in it thinking - this is impossible, it makes no sense, they must be in there and I'm missing them - but no, nothing.
Everything else has been slow and stingy too.....eggplant, tomatoes, etc. I'm really wondering if someone nearby did some massive herbicide bombing or something that is preventing the plants from putting on the fruits. I've seen it in the squash, the eggplant, the peppers, it's really bizarre, and very different form previous gardens.
Has anyone every heard of anything like that?

I'm having the same kind of year as you, third. That's an interesting thought about a possible herbicide bombing by a neighbor. Makes me wonder, because I haven't been able to explain or figure out why why gardens are not producing as they usually do.
My new "bean field" bed is doing great. It has my NM bolita beans and 2 tomatillos, but it is further away from my larger garden.
In the main garden, tomato and chile plants, though they have some fruits are pretty pathetic looking. Not nearly as robust as they can and should be. Garlic and onions and greens did OK though. My pumpkin plant finally has a pumpkin formed (about the size of a marble) but it's August 2. It's got some serious catching up to do. Am beginning to wonder if I will have a pumpkin for Thanksgiving pie. Summer squashes are so-so. I've harvested 3 total- at least it is something. And the green beans are doing well in that bed.

It is hard for me to keep up because of work, too. But I enjoy the hard work of gardening. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Stop for food. Hydrate again. I just have a little garden. I want a much larger garden. I am sure I will have problems keeping up if I ever get one.
Octave, when I feel the way you feel I take a break. I haven't felt that way about gardening. But I feel that way about work a lot. I take a day or two off asap.
Edited to add: I replied on my phone not realizing I was replying to a super old post. Sorry!
