What do I do when it's done? Directions said to plant in garden in May, then dig in Fall and store??? There are varying directions as to how to treat them after flowering, sometimes depending on where you live. I've never planted mine outdoors - although I may try that with a few at some point. Normally, after the flowering is done you cut the flower stalks back to about an inch or so, & then treat the remaining leaves like you would any other houseplant. When the leaves start to yellow/wither, you cut them back as well & then allow the bulbs to go dormant for 4-6 weeks, then repot in fresh soil & begin watering them again. Sometimes it's worked for me, sometimes it hasn't.

I stopped by my, and Mumsey, favorite seed store and brought one home for sweetheart today. Lucky Strike is on the marker, supposed to be a deep red flower, I hope she approves…….

I wanted to wait until the flower stalks were about to open before posting. I planted an amaryllis bulb in the Spring from a previous plant into a pot with potting mix that someone had previously had a tomato plant in. The framework made it easy to move in and out of the house on cold days and seemed to provide a little support and protection from wind gusts. The previous one bloomed about the middle of February and this one is starting to show signs of doing the same. Now my SIL gave my wife another bulb prior to Christmas in a tiny round vase, and all it is doing is barely peeking above the container. I will probably bust open the pot in Spring and see if I can get it to do anything.

I bought an Amaryllis at Lowes in an after Christmas markdown. Was supposed to be an all red one, but it was definitely something like Apple Blossom, white with red streaks. Either it was mismarked when they packed it or someone switched the packaging at the store for some reason. It produced five blooms. But I did get quite a few aphids that showed up and the timing seemed to be once I brought this plant in. Lesson for next year is anything coming into the house will have to be put in another area (or outside briefly) and sprayed with something like Neem. I will be starting seedlings inside soon and last thing I need are aphids!

Apple Blossom, white with red streaks There are quite a few red-streaked amaryllis out there, but "Apple Blossom" ain't one of them. It's a pale pink & white.

My after-Christmas amaryllis is approximately 8" tall now with two flower buds. Keeping it in the utility room where it's a bit cooler so may still be a few weeks before it blooms.

Amaryllis bloomed yesterday. Looks like it has at least four buds. This one was marked as Apple Blossom and came from a reputable independent garden center.

It is pretty, I am an experienced grower but really hadn't done much with Amaryllis until I got one last Christmas and thought it would be fun to build up a small collection. Thanks to all of you for your replies.
