Mumsey…are you going to protect your blooming daffodils? Predicted low of 27* by early morning. I know they have survived snow, but that was a warm snow. The blooms are so pretty this year, I’d hate to lose them so early in the bloom cycle. Might be time to drag out boxes, buckets, and blankets. 😟

I've never lost tulips or daffodils to snow or freezing weather. They are made to survive these, just like garlic, crocusses and similar bulbs.

Same here binnylou, We often get some mid to low 20s nights and/or snow when the daffs are peaking. The blooms look pretty sad and droopy in the morning but perk up once the temps rise. I figure if they bloom at this time of year they know what they are getting into and are made to survive. They should be fine.

No protection for them. They are on the south side of garage, pretty protected. Really don't want them there, dug them up a couple years ago but here they are! Must have missed some.

All the leaves of my daffodils have died back. They have been mulched since they were planted, but wondering if they should get some extra love . What do you do to encourage a good show next spring?

That's all I do- let the leaves stay until they die back. This feeds the bulb. Then the dried out leaves become mulch I don't remember ever giving them any external supplements. My daffs keep spreading and the show gets better and better each year. binnylou,

Daffodils are on the same schedule as my garlic. I found them today, just peeking through the wood chip mulch.

My daffs have flower buds! They won't bloom quite yet, but getting close! I have them planted in various areas of the yard- shady, sunny, warmer, cooler and this extends the bloom season along with the different varieties that are early-mid or late bloomers.

My daffodils came up before our last snowstorm about 10/11 days ago when we got 11". Wondered if they would survive and this week there are buds on them.
They were here when I first moved in. When they came up they were just green with no flowers. Just keeping it cleaned out they are blooming..

Daffys are so photogenic…they don’t even have to fix their hair. . Thanks for the photo share, pepperhead212.
