breezygardener, I'll keep that in mind. In the case of my daughter's packages, they were shown as delivered and we went up and down our road looking for them. I think she finally did get reimbursed for one package but the other she's still battling months later.

I looked into Chewy but quickly changed my mind when I discovered they shipped through FedEx. Do you have a Pet Supplies Plus near you? I signed up for their emails and always get 25% coupons, once I got a 30% coupon. I like to shop local to support the people in my community working there. I also dislike FedEx.

We used to use Chewy, the auto ship. Seems with every shipment the price kept creeping up, and this was before inflationary pandemic effects. I checked the other day, the food I buy is nearly $10/bag more at Chewy than it is at Menards! I like ordering it online, no big heavy bags to haul, but for $10 a bag I'll haul bags. Even Amazon is more than Menards, and their packaging of dog food isn't very good. I've received crushed and torn boxes.

No fresh chicken wings for the Superbowl this time around - & I went to four different markets. This is the very first time ever I haven't been able to find/buy fresh wings. And one supermarket had signs up stating that customers were limited to three poultry product purchases each. Finally settled on 3# of individually flash-frozen wings that actually look very nice.

Have seen on our local online neighborhood forum that a lot of people are saying their pet food orders show as delivered and they never get them. Also complained about FedEX and their handling of packages. When they report the missing packages the companies do replace them but it also could result in higher prices due to having to cover lost deliveries.

Possibility of food and other shortages will be rising from Putin's invasion of Ukraine. I missed the discussion on local news, but I'm sure it'll be addressed again.

Ukraine is about the 4th largest exporter of wheat, if I remember correctly, and Russia is up there as well. Ukraine also exports a lot of corn.
I don't know offhand what types of wheat or corn.

I went to the Indian supermarket today - though I certainly am not running short of food, there were some things I was out of, and some I was almost out of, when I did that reorganizing, and invetorying (is this a word?) All of it. So I drove up there - only about 12 miles, but farther than I drive than too many other food sources. The prices really hadn't gone up that much, and it's been quite a while since I bought most of that. And the produce was low, as always, and I saw no empty shelves anywhere. Just about all of the legumes and grains are from India or occasionally Pakistan, so eventually, I figure the fuel prices has to raise prices, due to the shipping. So I stocked up! Sort of like the beginning of the pandemic, but for a different reason - prices going up, so I'll buy as little as necessary, and soon, we'll be harvesting! At least the cold weather crops.

I like to shop local to support the people in my community working there. I too like to do this but I found that the things I buy are not something that seem to go on sale. But the dog and cat food I buy have a discount like buy some many bags and then get 1 free. And the store I usually shop at has similar discounts. We have recently had a new market come to our town and am looking forward to checking it out.

I went to the Indian supermarket today That is something I would like to do, although I would be totally out of my element there. I like the few Indian dishes I've sampled over the years, I also like Thai and Vietnamese but my wife is allergic to the fish base used in many of those foods. One day I may just do meal preps, different ones for each of us.

That is something I would like to do, although I would be totally out of my element there The good thing about the Indian market is that you can get many of the ingredients that you use in other foods, such as the legumes, spices, rices, and much of the produce they have, most of it cheaper than anywhere else, if you can find it elsewhere. Of course, there are even more ingredients you'll learn about, that you'll only find in the Indian market, like some of the spices, and the grains and flours, but there are ways of using many of these ingredients in non-Indian type dishes - I use a lot of all those legumes, in non-Indian dishes, especially in the summer, with all those lentil salads. What kind of allergy does your wife have with the "fish base" in the SE Asian foods? Does she get a severe headache from eating it? If so, it might be from what I call "fake fish sauce" - I had this happen one time, and figured out that it was a new brand of fish sauce I used in a dinner, and I probably ate about 3 tb of it total. The headache took about 3 days to go away, so I tested just a half tsp of it a couple of weeks later, and I got a slight headache (and I never get headaches). These fake sauces have enzymes added, to break down and "age" the fish, in just a few days, instead of the many months it takes for natural fermentation. They can be identified by the ingredient "hydrolyzed vegetable protein", and you find these used in most restaurants, instead of the natural, because it is not as strong, so it won't be offensive to as many people. There are many soy sauces made with this, too, and may be the reason for the proverbial "Chinese restaurant syndrome", rather than MSG.

What kind of allergy does your wife have with the "fish base" in the SE Asian foods? She is allergic to all fish/shellfish except for tuna. She gets hives, throat constricted, etc. That's why we stay away from anything that even has a picture of a fish on it.

Not food, but absolutely no canned cat food at Walmart. Deodorant, of all things, was in short supply as well.

We did a grocery run this morning and found almost everything we needed except Aldi's was out of cinnamon. One of our local grocery chains, Tops Markets, had good sales on a few items. Chicken breast fillets for $1.95/lb and 85% hamburger for $4.00/lb. I always keep hamburger in the freezer for meatloaf and chili. I noticed increased prices on many items, like 2 for $6 instead of the 2 for $5 in the not-too-distant past.

I'm thinking our food (and other) shortages are nothing in comparison to what the Ukrainians are going through. I will gladly suffer our comparably minor shortages.
