First Japanese Beetle!!!!! It was in a perennial. As I recall, it's one they liked last year as it has a yellow bloom. I'm trying to eliminate white and yellow flowers that bloom when JB arrive.

Harvested my first okra today - 5 of the Little Lucy ones. I left the first 2 on one, and the first one on another, since they were the first, and those plants were the largest two, so I figured I'd save the seeds from those, since there are no flowers on the Emerald yet. They are all at least 8", so I'll have a lot of seeds! I also started getting the first cukes in the last two days.

First Japanese Beetle!!!!! No say it ain't so. FIRST Mexican bean beetle today for me. No Japs yet. Ya work so hard to grow a few nice plants, and they all can get destroyed in a second from something, anything...…….make a list of everything bad that can happen, crappy foreign bug, native bug, cat poop really chaps my shoe!

First frog in the romaine. In fact, I think it's the first frog I've ever found in anything in any garden in any year. On the ground, yes, but not in a plant. Lots of slugs in the lettuce this year, though. I was gonna pick or pull this plant, but decided to leave it alone after I noticed that it was inhabited. I'll water everything once the garden's in the shade, which should make him happy.
