First flower buds on the okra --- Emerald, of course. The plants are only a couple of feet tall, but healthy and stocky. From last season's home-saved seed.

First official heat wave of the year, for this area - wasn't supposed to get to 90, but it did. Not something I want to celebrate.

Big Beef. It has looked ripe for a few days, but felt quite firm, and I didn't want to pick it too early. Today I felt the faintest softness, and just couldn't help myself.
Holy cannoli, Batman, that's delicious.

First ceremonial slicing o' the first big Rutgers tomato, bigger than usual. I gave her the honors. We agreed that it was good.

Not the first, nor the second, nor the third...but the fourth tree frog to launch himself from the top of the barn door and land on me. I didnβt have my big ugly garden hat to act as a shield, so he landed on me. Freaks me out!!! Iβm too old to be doing that dance out there.

First flower bud on one of my dahlias. The first of many, I hope.

First butternut squash. It wasn't wholly ripe, but I was impatient, and it is edible but would have been better if riper. I think I should harvest when the stem has dried out.

First tomato! Eaten fresh from the plant. It was one of the currant tomatoes, but oh so good for such a little thing. Have a Roma and large red cherry that should be ready to pick in a few days.

First hornworm. Luckily I found him before he did too much damage.

First tomato plant killed by Curly Top, and the first Sweet Million tomato picked (the birds must not have seen that one). I haven't had a garden grown tomato in three years, and I can't tell you how good that one little tomato was!
