I just may beat all you northern gals this year. I just picked a handful of asparagus! It's in the fridge and waiting for more tomorrow or the next day for enough for a mess! :-[

My first spear popped up on April 17 last year and who knows when we will see it this year. We'll see.
Congrats Karen! I'm envious!

That's exciting, Karen! It's usually early May around here. I don't grow it but I love seeing it pop out.

I was just admiring last year's calendar.
My first asparagus was up 4/6/14................and on that same day...........my first pea sprouted.
I am betting my peas beat my asparagus this year.
The suspense is going to kill me!

Yesterday I cut more asparagus (3rd cutting), picked peas and pulled a handful of radishes!

Woo Hoo Karen!
My eyes are peeled for my first asparagus to peek out of the soil and my peas should be up soon too. I poked around in the pea patch, and the roots have started, so I'm waiting on growth on the upside now.

I went out and had a few words with my asparagus and explained that you were already harvesting just a few hours away. The asparagus suggested I appreciate the chives and just leave them alone.

I went over to my clients house yester, apparently they planted some asparagus (don't know when) he made a point to show me this ONE LONE shoot... hehe
I said: 'don't harvest it!' he didn't know they were: 1. a fern, 2. they got big, 3. you cant harvest until year three, 4. they're permanent, and he had better move them to some place else (they're in his small raised bed) so they have room and can stay there. hehe

One lone asparagus spear! In the front in the one plant I have in a pot with some other things. I hope the others are not far behind!

Great! Ya'al are catching up with me! The peas I planted early this spring, where my snap peas got froze, are starting to bloom. Picked more peas, radishes, asparagus and some carrots today. I wanted to get my green beans planted but I ran out of time & energy. I did put my sweet corn seeds to soaking so I can plant them soon too.
I planted 2 groups of rain lilies, 2 iris (dug up last fall-were crowded before), a Formosa lily & a pink Brugmansia. Finished mulching the onions with straw and got a little more turned with my garden claw for more tomatoes. Got 15 tomatoes moved to their paper cups & 5 bell peppers. Cleaned up some stuff in my garden house and dumped a few pots where nothing had come up. Also put some tropical hibiscus into a big pot for the front porch...a gal in OK sent me some cuttings last fall.
So my garden house is looking close to empty right now....if all my flower seeds come up, I'll be super busy getting them all planted soon.

The asparagus suggested I appreciate the chives and just leave them alone. After reading this I went out and checked my chives and sure enough they were about 4 inches tall! I cut a few and put them into the twice backed potatoes for Easter dinner. Thanks, NC, I never would have thought of that,

EEK!
My first asparagus shoots are out there! ONE FAT ONE AND A SKINNY ONE! 1 Day earlier than last year!
I squealed when I saw the first one and hubby said to quiet down............Then I saw the fat one and squealed again, and hubby said he was going to put a log down my throat to shut me up......He was gathering wood at the moment. He said I was tooo loud for Easter Morning!
