I would suggest signing him up for obedience school real soon. He will need chew toys also Looking back on your post after four months - he's in obedience school, the owner of many chew toys, constantly stays attached to us and has managed to justify sleeping in our bed. Thanks for all that good info and how true it is!

Yes mine is a bed hog, often has a differing opinion on what is a chew toy, and tried to mate with both females in his training class(that got his attitude altered).

martywny The only thing our 63 lb shorthair lab cannot destroy are nyla bones and deer antlers! I got her the bone shaped nyla bone that you can put treats in the holes. Keeps her busy a long time. I have only ever seen that particular one at Menards and the fancy pet stores. I don't buy the "treats" you put in the long center space, very pricey. Carrots wedged in work just fine. Soft treats can be cut and stuffed in the end holes. Sounds like you have a friend for life!

martywny That's an interesting article and thanks for the info. We do not give her those products, only the ones that are very tough, she has never broken off a chunk. She really doesn't chew the thing itself, she is after the treats lodged in it. About all she does is lick it to death trying to get the treats out. Then she picks it up and throws it on the floor to knock some out. When the treats are gone, she isn't interested anymore. Then she will go for the antlers. And we never do rawhide or real bones.

My best to Gunner!
About growing pumpkins. Do you want something to eat or just some decorations? If you want to eat, plant some crookneck squash, zucchini, and some hubbard or banana squash. Pumpkins are for Jack-O-Lanterns.

I had a cat eat a rubberband, and 4 days later had to go to the vet to get strong laxative, it worked.

About growing pumpkins. Do you want something to eat or just some decorations? Pumpkins will serve two purposes, one is pumpkin pie and the other is growing giant pumpkins for the grand kids. I have several varieties of squash to plant - spaghetti, butternut, summer and zucchini.

And we never do rawhide or real bones. Take a look at compressed rawhide; it's for serious chewers like Gunner. He's been in training and they suggested those and that he should only spend an hour at a time chewing on it. We also use the Kong toys filled with peanut butter.

martywny Come to think of it, I did get her a compressed rawhide. She wants nothing to do with it! Prefers antlers. I do watch all her chew toys closely.
