Dog owners please tell me: are dogs more exciting than cats as pets? The wonderful cat that belongs to my neighbor but decided to be my best friend is now an adult. She was the most fun and playful kitten, but now all she wants to do is sleep and eat. Walking into my house one wouldn't be able to tell the cat from a cushion on the couch. Granted, I know cats are mostly ornamental but: I need more activity, more interaction with a pet... Is a dog the answer?

Boxers are playful their entire lives, the males more so than the females. My male has been playing with his stuffed squirrel all day. One of his favorite toys is his first puppy collar.

Does she use bacon to get you to sit, speak, or come to her? One thing... she owns the company I work at but bacon is a close second.

Granted, I know cats are mostly ornamental but: I need more activity, more interaction with a pet... Is a dog the answer? I think every cat and dog are different. Younger animals, in general, have more energy and want to be played with more often and for a longer time period than older animals. I have two almost 10 year old cats. One has always been very playful and still is extremely playful. She keeps up with the new, young cat. The other 10 year old cat was very playful as a youngster and is not nearly as interested in playing as often now or for as long of a time and hasn't been for a few years. Activity, playfulness, etc., also varies from dog to dog and breed to breed. Some dog breeds are more active than others. I had a mixed breed dog growing up who was very active and loved to play when he was young and not so much when he was older. If you are interested in being around young, playful animals, maybe fostering is a good fit for you.

The cushion cat is probably sleeping all the time just to bug you, lol. As Restless said, all cats (and dogs) are different. Right now I have a young one (6-ish) who is extremely active. And another that is far more sedate and still young (8-9?). Sometimes having two cats makes them both more active, especially if they get along and like to play. They stimulate each other. But you won't know that until you have them in your home. Or you could adopt many of them ...and become the Cat Lady of your town. ;)

gianna I am already the cat lady of my neighborhood. I still have to meet a cat who does not like me as well as my propensity to feed them.

We have a cat lady in our neighborhood. She had a "cat" door installed on her garage so the stray cats come and go. She leaves food for them inside the garage, complete with comfy beds. She has yet to befriend one. She has a cat in the house. Says she can't stand to see the poor things out looking for food. And am hoping they help to control the bunny population.

I could easily become a cat lady. I just love them and their expressive little faces.
There are barn cats at the stable where I ride and they always meow to me and I pet them. They can tell when a person loves cats.

How's Gunner doing? Are you in your new place yet? Mumsey, Gunner is up to 47 lbs from the 28 lbs he was when they sprung him from death row. He comes to the office with us and spends the day there, does several walks during the day and evening. Had his vet check Tuesday and passed heartworms but failed roundworms and is on meds for that. Overall he is in excellent health, has a great personality and loves everyone. We should be moving next week if all goes according to plan, I have a 10 x 15 and a 10 x 20 storage building filled plus have the outdoor equipment stored at the office in our warehouse. The movers are ready as soon as I have a date. If I can manage it, I am going to plant some garlic and prep a pumpkin patch for next year. I told the granddaughters we'll be growing giant pumpkins next year so we'll see how it goes. The major item on my list is to fence in about an acre for the garden and orchard before winter sets in. I have been working on my garden plan which includes companion planting and crop rotation. My plan is to have long, 3' wide rows using fabric weed block and drip irrigation with a fertilizer injector system. Of course, everything can change in a minute depending on what I read and what advice I get.
