We've added "Gunner" to our inventory of critters which now brings our total up to one. Gunner was one of 150 on death row down in Alabama for his crimes against humanity but luckily escaped via the underground doggie railroad, commonly known by its code name Petfinder. As part of the adoption, Gunner had to undergo gender identification modification surgery so he is now missing some of his boy parts. Surgery went well and he is totally recovered, he's on medication for giardia and is starting to gain weight. He's 6 months old and eating good quality puppy food so everything looks good. He'll have about 2 acres of fenced in area to patrol when we get moved in and put up the fence. It will be a welcome change to work on our own forever house instead of working on the one we are selling.

Gunner is beautiful, and I love is name. So glad he found a loving home Jobet, Gunner is the name he came with and I decided to keep it for a specific reason. The term "gunner" is one of the terms used to refer to a Warrant Officer in the USMC. I served in the USMC 1970 - 1976 and thought it would be appropriate to keep the name for that reason.

Reminds me of one of my favorite "book" characters. Bob Lee Swagger. This winter, you might enjoy reading. Many books: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Lee_Swagger Swagger is loosely based on USMC Scout Sniper Carlos Hathcock.[1][2] He is a Marine Gunnery Sargent. Good reading, if ya like stuff like that. I DO. I like the Author Steven Hunter. Sweet baby pup you have there!

So exciting! It's strange how we come to have our pets. Our Princess was the only one at the rescue that sat down and looked at me, like we were a match made in doggie heaven! She not only did it once, she did it the second time I walked through as well. Congrats! He is a handsome Gunner! And he looks right at home. A lucky pup. :-[

He does look like he is going to be a big boy. How lucky for him to have a good home with your family and 2 acres to play in!

His mom is a boxer and his dad comes from a good neighborhood.
I am very familiar with the Bob Lee Swagger story (enjoyed it very much) and know a bit about Carlos Hathcock from readings. I went to sniper school but was a competition shooter afterward.
He's gained about 5 lbs since moving in with us and seems to be filling out his paws!
We are scheduled to close on our new house Sep 27 and are closing to sell ours on Sep 26 - going to be homeless for a day or two.
I will post some pictures of what it looks like now and then as I transform it into a mini homestead.

I'm currently on my second boxer. I would suggest signing him up for obedience school real soon. He will need chew toys also and my boxer's favorite is a water buffalo horn that I found at Target. Other than that, they are very affectionate dogs and want to be with their people 24/7. Definitely not a "backyard dog", he will probably start to follow you around the house. It used to drive my female crazy when the family was split up in different rooms, check this room then check that room.
