I watched people walk around , shoulders slumped, grumpy frowns, edgy attitudes, depression, etc. There is a name for that, and I was just watching a clip about it on the news the other day. Buffalo can have a lot of sunless days in a row due to our weather and the condition is more common than most folks realize. The definition as per Johns Hopkins... Seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, is type of depression. It happens during certain seasons of the year—most often fall or winter. It is thought that shorter days and less daylight may trigger a chemical change in the brain leading to symptoms of depression. Light therapy and antidepressants can help treat SAD

50's here the rest of this week! So strange. And we had sun yesterday and will the rest of the week.

Having a cool spell now, with highs around 40° f, but not as cold as it has been - just a little cooler than average. And it's getting warmer again, by Thursday, with sun! It's been foggy, rainy, and overcast every day - my straight sided bucket out there (my rain gauge, when there can be freezing temps) had over 4½" of water, from the last 2 batches of rainy weather - not even including the snow, and the rain earlier in the month. January has given me about 4" over average precipitation, and along with that extra rain we got in Nov & Dec, we made up for that deficit of close to 11" we were in last year! I'll see if this weather continues into the spring this year - the last two seasons I had to set up my drip irrigation system early, whereas usually I didn't have to think about it until well into June.

We are in for a wonderful week of sunshine, comfortable weather, and zero chance of rain, which is nice after three days of rain. But storm are coming for Saturday during Carnival season. Not complaining, though.
Frost the past two mornings, then warmed up to the 60's.

51 and extremely sunny. Nice day to walk around and check out the garden beds. Still really muddy, but did pull back the mulch and some of the garlic is poking out. Saw some daffodils poking out of the ground under the kitchen window too. Colder tomorrow, only 38.

We had sun! But that's gone now, and more rain overnight, and some of tomorrow. But then, 5 or 6 nice days forecast, but I'll believe it when I have it.

Sunshine and a predicted high of 45*. I’m guessing the little brown critter saw his shadow.
Happy Groundhog Day.

No shadows around here! A miserable day again, when the groundhog was brought out, and rain only seems to be slowing around noon, might be out by 1 pm. But still no sun.

Well that didn't last long. Woke up with rain- the important word:rain- which is an indication of the warmer temps we've had the past few days. Last nights low was 35º but then as the day progressed the high of 46 (around 11AM) started plummeting and rain turned to snow. Didn't stick though. Currently 34º at 7pm They predict the low will be 31º tonight. We seem to be starting our spring yo-yo early this year. They predict back to the 50s/days early next week.

Thinking of you Latitude33 and gianna as this next atmospheric river arrives. Just read that 94% of Californians are at risk of life threatening flooding.

Just read that 94% of Californians are at risk of life threatening flooding. I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. I think they are being perhaps a bit over-cautious after a number of people died in the flash floods of Montecito a few years ago. Locally we have areas where they are evacuating people, but in the usual places along streams, in low areas, and below former burn areas. In years past there are many homes that were built near picturesque but usually dry creeks that were questionable. Hint: Why are there Sycamore trees, and how did those big rocks in your back garden get there in the first place? It's past 10 pm now, and in my area we've gotten about 3.5 inches today. I think the airport is closed, but then it was built on a former salt marsh. In big rains, that often happens. Yeah, I think there has been an abundance of caution in some areas, after last year. My sister- up the coast from you in Avila Beach- had some strong wind gusts but nothing long lasting and has had "hardly any rain". Her electricity has remained connected. Last year there were a few deaths, there, due to the floods. and she was without electricity for I think it was 3 days. It does look like some areas did get hit hard, though. ... Acts of God Theme Park.-- I like it.

A little above average today - mid to upper 40s, and the 3rd day in a row I haven't seen a cloud in the sky! Back to average tomorrow, but then the temp starts rising, up to maybe 60° Saturday though they say that might be the next chance for rain we have, though not any inches plus, like we kept getting in January.
