Seasonal temps here with reduced winds the last few days, that is a welcome relief. Next week will bring nighttime temps to less than 20˚.

We have measurable snow forecasted for Tuesday. Hubby is thinking of canceling our therapy If it’s bad as we don’t want to take our daughter out if the roads are treacherous.

We got an inch of snow starting early Saturday AM and drizzling snow off and on into the afternoon. Last night's low was 18º, today's high was 40ish with clear blue skies. It's still white out there.

We're under a weather advisory beginning this afternoon for a mixture of rain and snow, with accumulations of 2 to 3 inches. I've noticed over the years that even a light snowfall mixed with rain prompts a weather advisory, which is wise, but it prompts me to think back over a few decades when a 2 - 3" snowfall would be considered light, a 6" or so snowfall justification for caution, and an overwhelming (for my area) snowfall of over a foot would prompt a panic run on grocery stores and people would plan to hunker down for the duration until the roads were cleared.
Even though a foot of snow was a lot to clear, it was kind of exciting, and unique, b/c it was so rare, and so lovely once it fell. The freshness of the air can't be compared; it was a treat for my lungs!
In all fairness though, I wouldn't want to be faced with clearing that much snow at my age now.
So I'll eagerly watch and wait for our big storm of 2 - 3". Hot chocolate will be on the menu today.

ahntjudy, I just bought some peppermint hot chocolate last week. I'm anxious to try it. I remember when we used to have make homemade hot chocolate after we got home from school on cold weather days. Mom, my sister and I would make it, sometimes backing a delicious spice cake that we all loved. Good times.

Thunderstorms the last day of November! And 67°, and over 1" of rain, so far today. Not normal at this time, in this area. Of course, weather never seems to be normal anymore.

Of course, weather never seems to be normal anymore. Actually, it never was "normal". Look back over this thread. Look in old magazines from when you were growing up. I've seen floods, hurricanes, droughts, blizzards etc. all featured in stories going back to the 50's when I was a kid and even before that. Always people said this is unusual, but it wasn't. The older you get, the more you realize these things happen. In a human lifespan may happen a few times, but over geologic times things repeat themselves. There's nothing new under the sun.

A good plan to stay home even if roads are only a little slick. My thoughts are if there is an accident, the hospitals are very full right now. And I don't want to go there with all the Covid. Heck, they might not even have room for accident victims.

Mumsey, good point about staying home. We only had an inch or so of snow, but the roads are still wet and temps are in the freezing range. Tomorrow will be much safer. In this area, there's one trunkline intersection with an interstate freeway exit and the drivers are often speeding off the freeway, lane switching w/o signalling, and running the red lights.

Finished with well over 2" of rain yesterday, and the temp started dropping as soon as that last line went through. Got down to 40° overnight, but up to 46° at 8:30, when I went to Aldi.

weather never seems to be normal anymore. and it's not so much that the weather extremes we experience haven't happened before. It's the frequency and intensity that has increased. That's not normal.
