With the extended cold coming, I'm thinking to cover those baby onions. They can tolerate 20's, but not a freeze. I'm hoping the ground doesn't freeze especially with the expected rainfall. I would put down a sheet then cover with straw. And since I have very few saved for backup I just might do this.

I brought some of my flower flats into the shop last night because temps were predicted down to about 25, onions stayed in the greenhouse. I have to stake my new trees, we have wind gusts predicted up to 75 mph and sustained at 45 mph. We should see some damage in the area when this one comes through.

We just had a light rain move through, but just before the rain started we had a huge flash of lightening and booming thunder. Light and sound were almost simultaneous. Then another, but not quite as big. Then it was gone. I wasn’t aware we had stormy weather in the area and was preparing to go back outside for a while.
Today’s outdoor time may be over.

binnylou, It rained a long time here yesterday, about 3 hours of soft steady rain. I did get to work outside for an hour. Looks like several nights in the 20's! Crazy weather.

Expecting heavy thunder storms and high winds around noon. Right now just a light rain. See how it plays out.

Now they're predicting overnight low on Monday 24º. And Tuesday 20º!! Yikes! Definitely will lose the peaches this year. Cherries are just starting to bloom- might get a few. Apples, pears and plums haven't started yet, so might be there's a chance for those.

Whew...40-60 mph winds, over 5 inches of rain, and numerous tornadoes around the area. Quite a bit of damage reported already in nearby communities.

Never got the onions covered, we'll see if they survive. Rain all day yesterday with wind, ice balls and some snow.

The first wave of rain is mostly over. We definitely got a good soaking and continue to have high and gusty winds, but everything seems safe so far. The later wave should be stronger. Hopefully the sun won't come out until it has passed.

I lost track, but we're up to at least Deluge #4 today, and the area under high wind/tornado warning has expanded.
I sure hope the lettuce doesn't drown - I've had that happen a few times in the past.
Uh-oh. As I was typing we suddenly got bright sunshine. That's not good.

Only a tornado watch here, until 6 pm, and the wind is bad, but not as bad as earlier. Severe TS warning, so it looks bad, but sort of broken up up in my area, compared to further south. Down at the shore and in DE got the brunt of it, it looks like. Flooding in SE PA, but not over in Jersey, yet. Up to 1.96" today; still raining, but brightening up now.
Hope everyone stays safe in this!

It's just darn cold and windy here. So very "not normal". I did go out and cover up the onions late yesterday, predicted lows near 20.
