Rabbit hunting has begun. I was in the garden. A baby ran out and managed to get out of rabbit proofed fence. You Know Who got it. There must be a nest somewhere in the garden but havenβt run across it yet. Princess jumps the fence and gets in the garden to snoop around when Iβm not out there. She will probably find another one and destroy something in the process.

I haven't seen a single bunny this year. Usually they are ranging all over the area. It's weird. On the other hand friends who live in another area about 10 miles from here have an outbreak of more rabbits than usual. What's going on? 'Cause I know ours didn't pack their bags and move!

Went to Dad's yesterday to pull rhubarb to sell at garage sale today. Step mom and I were out there, I was on about the third hill and then jumped about a foot and yelled! I put my hand blindly into the center of a rhubarb plant. As I separated the leaves there was a bull snake curled up smack in the middle of the plant. He posed no thread but it scared the bejeebers out of me for a minute. We went to the other end of the row and left him be. An hour later he was still in the same spot. It was a cool day, only upper 60s. He must have been cozy there. He would be a beneficial in the garden. Not a great pic, but there he is in the center.

Wish I had things like that in my garden! Actually, I wish I had much larger snakes, that would eat rabbits.

Caught a possum in a cage trap last night. They do some good but eat tomatoes, I think. Took it across the road and let it go. Getting caught makes them so mad that they don't come back.

2 garden pics, couldn't get it all in one pic. Nice looking spread and also nice looking pooch! I was going to say something about your comment about mulching with hay but from what I see here it's straw. I have two bales left over that I am going to try mulching with and we'll see how that goes.

martywny, Yes, it's wheat straw. It spouts wheat sometimes, but is easily pulled.

Getting caught makes them so mad that they don't come back. Tom, they also eat ticks so maybe you can plant a tomato or two for the possums at the back of the yard!

Your garden looks fantastic Mumsey,. So lush. How are you liking the replaced grass strips with straw? I've been finding ways to minimize my work, too,

desertwoman, Love it! Less tedious mowing down the strips. It still looks like it's in sections though. I like that too.
