I cleaned up the dead annuals and put them in the compost pile.
Pulled the remaining bean, pea and pepper plants from the garden.
Next week we will roto till the garden and cover it with a layer of straw. Yesterday I was at Giant and I asked the store manager what they will be doing with the straw bales from in front of the store. He said "throw them away" but if I come back on Wednesday, I can have them! There are 6 bales and they are even dry since they are under the porch overhang. This will cover my garden nicely for the winter.
Harvested the last of the dry beans.
Planted garlic.

It's been cold and damp for the last two days..once it dries up a bit, I can use the bagger to pick up the leaves and pine needles that have been blowing around. I've learned NOT to attempt if they are at all damp because the Shute clogs...I did get to finish all but one room of Windows. And take down the curtains putting heavier ones over the windows for winter. We have energy efficient Windows but thermal backed curtains help maintain the heat well. The only down side is the darkness..I slept until 7am! I need sunshine!

I pulled the last few peppers out of the ground - all that is out there are some cool weather crops, in a small row, that huge rosemary, and all the container plants on both sides that I haven't pulled. After that, I 'tilled the entire garden! I think that's the first time I've had it this bare all at once. It is supposed to rain a LOT tomorrow, and I figured I'd do all this today.
I have to get some soil tests done soon - back there, and in front.

I hope the procedure went well, and you'll be much better quickly! Good luck, and take care.

Good luck with that Judy. I had that years ago and the first day was a little painful but it got better really quickly after that.
I see that you waited until after gardening season. Smart!

Judy, that's an easier one to recover from than knee replacement! Hope you are back to speed soon!
As for today, got up at 3:30, per Princess' request. Stayed up. Shuffled papers. Did laundry. Painted 2 living room walls. Ran to store and post office. It's too cold/muddy to do much in the garden. Just broccoli left, that will be coming out on Sunday. And more leaves to gather.... Making chicken/noodle soup and choc chip/raisin cookies.

Left work at 2pm. Comcast went down. No phones, no internet, can't work. Doctors had to use their IPhone hot spots to use the EMR. Oh well tomorrow is another day.

Judy, that's an easier one to recover from than knee replacement! Yep!! I've nursed my boyfriend (who has had a stroke) back from a couple of arthroscopies and then a replacement... Trust me...I have no complaints! ;) Thank you for the well wishes. ~~~ I received my garlic yesterday from GetGarlic.com... What beautiful heads they are! I'm anxious to get out there and get them planted...probably by next week...

I kno, weren't they beautiful, fresh heads from Get Garlic? I had to laugh, just the simple way you announced it. I'm glad all is well. Plenty of time to mend before growing season starts up again.. God speed!

datgirl, do you work at a doctors office? surprised no 'back up' generator or so forth

Yes, it's an ObGyn office. I think the building has a back up generator for when the power goes out but this was just the internet and phones that went out yesterday. Comcast had it all back up by 3:30, but I was long gone and at home by then. Just had to play catch up today.
