Chilly dreary day, but lots of good rain! Putzing around the house. Put all winter clothing away, got out the summer things. Did laundry. Gave the tomatoes and peppers a talking to and praying over. They are looking a little better since I turned on the space heater and lessened their exposure to light. Finished reading a book. Took a power nap. Baked some chick peas with seasoning for snacking and to add to salad.
Things outside are looking very bright green! Leaves on trees are growing fast. I see some blooms forming on lilacs. I also see purple globe allium sending up shoots for their purple heads. The liatris I relocated is growing already. I was outside this morning and the pileated woodpecker was scolding me. I interrupted his suet breakfast. When I left, he went back to pecking.
Next week I'm putting tomatoes in the ground, maybe peppers too. They won't grow much til it gets warmer, but I've never lost any planting this early as long as I use the milk jug covers and surround with straw.
Next job for today is to clean up sewing area, lots of organizing to do.....

Not much garden wise today. It's high 70's-80 with 25 mph winds. While sorting through containers marked "Garage" found multiple garden items and some broken ceramics. Nothing significant, hoping to find some crafty person that can incorporate the shards into their projects. I did do a happy dance as my eggplant and zucchini starts broke through. Ready to start some more seeds this weekend, based on the local advice. Met a neighbor a couple houses away who is also a gardener...and a political conspiracy theorist. Stay tuned.

Finished cleaning out rental last night at 10 pm. Hubby signed paperwork at noon today. We are done!!!!!! Well not really, we have to deal with a lot of the crap we took out of the house. Anyway, can't wait to get back to cleaning and taking care of my own stuff.

Slept til 0615 this morning. Was up late last night watching tornadoes on the news, then couldn't sleep when I did go to bed at 11 pm. Went out first thing this morning and pulled plants to the driveway. More going out today. Hoping the yard dries out enough to mow later, though doubtful. We haven't walked in a couple days due to high wind but will do that this morning before the skies open again.

Blood dry bright and early, got that over with. Went out and surveyed garden. Haven't been able to for a few days. Peas are coming up nicely, so are the weeds. Cabbage look good and onions are standing at attention. Going to sow some more beets Have to pick a spot for the Easter Lily I picked up from church. It's in memory of my sister. My Lilacs are in full bloom. I really wish they lasted longer. Deadheaded most of the daffodils. Noticed a couple of tulips that didn't bloom. Will be digging those up. I'm pretty sure they are old. They are calling for rain later, so I better get going here. AHHHH, it feels so good to have my life back.

Yesterday didn't start off the best as kiddo's aide made herself physically sick from worrying about everything that was going on at school and let me know she couldn't make it. Let the bus driver know I was taking her to school and off we went. Principal told me a sub was coming so I sat down with kiddo for breakfast and started her routine until the aide arrived. It was an older lady who told me she'd worked with kiddo once before and I told her that I hoped she'd notice the changes. Principal and I sat and waited for the therapist and then she called after she was ten minutes late and discovered she'd called off without notice. Principal and I talked a good bit and she'd already been in touch with the school board regarding the issue and assured me that the issue will be taken care of. Came home did some gardening and then headed to the store to pick up some popsicles for one of kiddo's classmates who was celebrating a birthday. We knew her mom wouldn't likely bring anything and she's always been protective of kiddo so wanted to make sure she had a great day! Substitute aide said they'd had a good day and was in awe of the behavioral changes in kiddo as she was a wild child the last time she worked with her.
Up early this morning and transplanted more cabbage and watered stuff in greenhouse. Mowed half of the front yard, scrubbed the water barrels out and set one back up an decided to start attaching those broken greenhouse connectors with epoxy. So far so good, but will be adding another layer for strength after the first one cures. Soaked runner, hyacinth and castor beans and sowed them in pots to transplant.

Hauled more plants to the outdoors today. The extra heat in the basement is doing it's job. I'm letting them all dry out good too and turning lights off after 12 hours. Lost myself in the sewing stuff this morning. At 12:30 I realized the sun was out, so went out and plucked dandelions for over an hour, I think I plucked more unopened heads than open ones. Then mowed the back yard. When I got done with that I noticed the mower is leaking oil. Great. Now to find someone to look at it. The previous guy had a shop 2 blocks from here. He was a volunteer fire fighter and it was figured out he started 11 fires and was always the first one on the scene. Arrested for arson. His shop is closed. No surprise there. I hesitate to take it to the John Deere Implement, pricey!!!! I'll continue to ask around.
Went for a short walk, pretty humid outside and getting cloudy. Storms will arrive by 7-8 pm. Still have to brush The Princess and cut asparagus. I'm thinking to plant beans next week, put all the grass clippings next to the bean fence for weed control. Was going to move the fence but just not into it this year. They do great right where they are. Noticed volunteer sunflowers coming up. Will have to move them. The onions are growing!!

Definitely not an outdoor work day- too cold/windy/dreary. So I bit the bullet and started house cleaning while hubby was in town flushing the boiler. It was waaaaay overdue.. Thought I'd get half of the house done, and that we could finish tomorrow, but Quinn got home sooner than expected and he deep cleaned the kitchen/mopped the floors while I finished dusting and vacuuming. The house looks/feels great. Nothing like a sparkling clean house. Then out for dinner as we never want to cook right after cleaning the kitchen and stove.

Mr. Breezy, seeing how I've been a bit miffed at how crummy my home-sown seedlings seem to be doing this year, took me on a trip to Home Depot & Lowe's today to peruse their newest veg plant shipments. Came home with very sturdy & healthy-looking tomatoes ("Sun Sugar", "Celebrity", "Orange Jubilee", "Lemon Boy", "Mr. Stripey", "Bonnie's Original", "Super Sweet 100", "Bush Early Girl", & "Patio"), two peppers ("Shishito" & "Jalapeno"), two "Lieutenant" broccoli plants, & one "Ichiban Type" eggplant. Also stopped at Aldi for a few sale items, including an outdoor pizza oven to use on the grill. It had quite a few excellent reviews online, came with a nice removable "pizza stone", & was on sale for $29.99. Should be fun to play with this summer. So a nice way to spend the afternoon - especially after yesterday's all-day rain.

I got a lot of things done out there today, preparing for those tomatoes going in, though I'm going to have to wait until Thursday or later for that, as they are now forecasting a thunderstorm late Wednesday, so I'll have to play it by ear. I brought the tomatoes back inside today, after leaving them outside overnight, and it rained .25" in the morning, but they dried out quickly. Not sure how long I'll leave them the next two days (or how long I'll be out there!), as it is supposed to be in the high 80s, with humidity, and they are talking about heat index already! I got all my hoses ready, with the timers, fixing some of the leaks, etc. I also put some crumbs of the mosquito dunks in the SIPs - something I do to keep any mosquito larvae from forming in those, as well as any fungus gnat larvae from living in the soil. I tried to start my 'tiller for the first time, but couldn't, even with the starting fluid, but it got too late to fool with it - I think I'll have to get some fresh gasoline for it.

Another iffy day, weather wise, so no gardening today. Talked with my sis on Facetime, moved some plants to the greenhouse for the afternoon, once the sun came out. Just puttered the day away until our neighborhood weekly klatch at 5pm, which we hosted this week.

I'm running so far behind this season and getting more scatter brained in the process. Just did start potting tomatoes yesterday and far from finished. Put the free greenhouse together and happy to say my repairs seem to have worked. Haven't added the roof yet and not sure if I will as it's the shelves I'm really going to need very soon. Decided to make as much Mumsey's Mix as I had ingredients for and have two ice cream buckets and a gallon bag full. I do the mixing in a gallon bag and while I was tossing around the last batch I was thinking how fortunate I've been that one of those bags has never popped open when... yep, didn't lose much but I guess we'll see if anything growing beside my front steps likes it. I substitute antacid tablets for the powdered milk at planting time so once I pick up another bottle, I'll be set for this year. Scrubbed an old cast aluminum bell I've had for years and managed to lose the clapper while doing it.
Watered a few things as it's dry, dry, dry and discovered that the quick-connect things I'd taken off the faucets in the fall were not where I saw them a few days ago. Connected the hose directly and ordered another set off of Amazon as I had intended to anyway for some new hoses mom gave me. Decided the stuck wheel on the dolly/hand truck was coming off if at all possible. When my father-in-law had his power chair serviced before he passed away, I grabbed the old wheels out of the garbage thinking they'd come in handy for something. Took brute force and a hammer but got the stuck wheel off, constructed an axle spacer of PVC and no more worries about flat tires as the replacements are solid.
Hubby came home with a metal gas can half full of gas, a D-handled shovel and a well bailer. Paid $20 for it all, which was a steal for the bailer alone. Inspected the gasoline and tried in it the old particular push mower and it fires right up. One of his selling buddies had picked it at an estate auction a few days ago.
Hubby admitted that he's tired of messing with the old tire on the riding mower and decided to replace it, so after a call to Tractor Supply to confirm they had one in stock, only to discover when we got there that they in fact did not have one. Ended up spending $20 more at Lowes but that's much better than stopping to air up the old tire every two laps around the yard. He also picked up some nylon rope for the bailer as we intend to test it out today and hopefully fill one of the rain barrels. Gave kiddo a choice of pizza or ice cream as a treat and she chose the pizza but we heard chants of ice cream the entire way home. Thankfully she'd declared it too hot outside and had taken her bath earlier, so it was right to bed after getting home. Whew! What a day!

Met a buddy for breakfast Thursday morning and handed off peppers, eggplant and cabbage plants. Since I didn’t have all the tomatoes up-potted I’ll have to get back with him in a couple days as I finished that task yesterday. Having had better than 3 inches of rain since Friday there won’t be any outside gardening for a couple of days at least.
Sweetheart and I took mom flower shopping Saturday afternoon and as much of a good thing as it was with mom’s reassurance and encouragement sweetheart’s cart was overflowing at the checkout counter. $$$ 😂
Having 3 grandsons her Saturday night and all day Sunday was all the motivation I needed to go downstairs and finish getting the tomatoes up-potted. Now to get all the plants into the garage and separating for ourselves, family and friends. My goal this year was to gift 2 plants for every 1 that I keep and I’m happy to say that I’ve exceeded that.

I got up early today (for me, 7:30 am), because it is supposed to be hot today, and I wanted to harvest some stuff, and run up to the PO, and mail a couple of things. I checked my seeds I am sprouting, and all of my cukes sprouted in less than 24 hours, and almost all of the okra spouted in about a day and a half. All those are planted in pellets now, as are all of the gourds. Might plant a few zinnias today, too.
