Yesterday was another goof off day. Went out on the boat for the day. The weather was so beautiful, we just had to take advantage of these last summer days.

I got my wheels back today. I really missed having my golf/garden cart. And the fellow who did the repairs took my old/non working golf cart as partial payment. Now itโs time to try to get caught up on things that werenโt getting done. Mainly weed whacking/weed pulling. I may have to water the weeds that need pulled. Theyโre dug in pretty good.
With no rain in the forecast until Thursday, I watered cukes, melons, carrots, green beans, peppers, and the tomatoes that get to stay. Thereโs still a bunch of green slicers out there. Iโd like for them to ripen.

Saw a couple of clients at the office. And while there, took the opportunity to pull a few weeds, dead head a long stand of hollyhocks and survey what needs to be done there. But that ain't gonna be happening soon. It will be at least 3 weeks before I can start. I'm mostly retired now, so don't get to the office regularly. I need to schedule time to get there to garden. And honestly...I prefer to work here at home, where I don't have to schedule a garden day. It just unfolds. I checked out the veggie garden when i got home. Green beans are just about ready to pick, second round of NM chiles are about ready too. Pumpkins are growing and tomatoes are a tad bigger too- some are golf ball size. It's actually looking lush- like an early/mid July garden. Sure took its time. This is end of August when things usually start to show signs of die back.

Nothing done i garden though I had watered earlier. Had a refridge removed from the garage on Thursday finally; been there in the way since March and finally decided to donate to Habitat For Humanity. While it was there it was difficult to move around to take care of other things. So yesterday a couple young men made short work of pulling things out out while I sorted through it to keep or throw out, broken garden cells and flats, lots of boxes flattened from items I bought from mostly Amazon, old tools not working, clothes and other things went onto boxes and put on shelves and putting things together like tools and shovels, flooring and tile in case I need to replace any in my kitchen or bathroom.
My garage is now amazing. Still more needed as I want to get my car into the garage for the winter but now I can see what needs work. Afterward I took a car-full to the dump. It was a purge of negativity and stress. I was pooped!! What a great feeling!!!

Yesterday was another in the 40s morning and I continued working on emptying pots and the wading pool of iris plants that should have long been planted. Left the clumps together as much as possible and moved the empty pool to the new garden and sunk it into the mulch. Next step is to fill it with some rejuvenated soil and replant all but the tiniest ones--they will go elsewhere.
Kiddo had what looked like a bite yesterday morning so I doctored it and sent her to school. When she came home it was swollen, hot to the touch and had a white head. I assumed spider bite and cellulitis and I outlined the swelling while we waited for hubby to come home so we could go to quick care place in town. Doctor there said it wasn't from an insect bite but definitely cellulitis and he was sending in a prescription. Our pharmacy was already closed but they assured us theirs was open until 8:00, which it is every weekday except Friday. Called back and asked for prescription to be sent to Walmart and receptionist said she'd put that in our chart but prescription hadn't been sent yet. So off to Walmart only to find their pharmacy closes at 7:00. I'm really starting to get aggravated at that point and had hubby take us back to the quick care place once again and have them send it to our regular pharmacy as CVS was about to close too. She updated and told me that her last few phone calls were from patients seen last evening whose prescriptions had never been sent through and you could tell she was definitely aggravated with the doctor. So now I wait for our pharmacy to open and confirm that they've received the prescription so hubby can get it and run it back before he goes to work. Luckily it hasn't gotten any worse overnight.
I was supposed to pick up a bucket of beans from the neighbor when we got back last evening but all their lights were off so will go down later today and get them and return some of her chicken poop buckets.

This morning Mr. Breezy took me over to the next town, which has our closest Home Depot, to see if they got in their Fall vegetable plants. Their website said they "might or might not" have them, & when I phoned, the gentleman I spoke with said they "might or might not" have them. So helpful. So we just made the 30 minute drive there to see for ourselves.
They DID have the "Lieutenant" broccoli plants I wanted, albeit unwatered. I will NEVER understand this. Our local Walmart had the plants, but they were dry as dust & completely dead. Why bother putting the plants in stock if you're not going to keep them in saleable shape??? Anyway, the Home Depot plants weren't dead yet, so we managed to rifle through the flats & find a six-pack that was still alive & actually had six plants. Next season I will definitely have "Lieutenant" seeds on hand & grow my own. On a brighter side & even though it's still really too hot out for them, they had really lovely (and watered) Romaine seedlings that salad-loving Mr. Breezy was admiring, so I bought a pack of those as well, even though I'll be starting my own lettuces in a week or two. I have a couple of semi-shaded tubs that I think they'll manage to semi-mature in without bolting if I use them promptly as soon as they're large enough.
Afterwards we went to that town's local farmers' market where I scored some nice fresh yellow wax beans, as well as two lovely & large French tarragon plants. (I can never have too many tarragon plants.)

Yesterday started out with several calls to pharmacies and quick care place to try and track down kiddo's antibiotic prescription as it wasn't at our pharmacy. Receptionist at quick care place said she would have the doctor take care of it on his break, so I called the pharmacy that had the prescription and asked if they could transfer it. The tech there said they would need our pharmacy to call and request the transfer and they did so immediately. Hubby was already aggravated about the situation and didn't leave until he confirmed the pharmacy had the prescription. Unfortunately he left about two minutes before the pharmacy called and said they were out of the generic and our insurance wouldn't cover the brand name. I told her to fill it and if hubby didn't have enough cash on him to tell him to come home and get the money. Thankfully one of the other vendors was at the pharmacy and loaned him the few dollars he lacked. Next was the issue of getting kiddo to take it. I made an orange juice smoothie but she took one drink and refused the rest and I resorted to using the syringe and squirting in her mouth, only to find myself wearing it a few seconds later. I will have to say the sight of her running to the bathtub and grabbing a washcloth to scrub her mouth out was almost as priceless as the gargling afterwards. Did manage to sneak little amounts of antibiotic into her orange juice so I guess it wasn't a complete fail. Infection hasn't spread but she wasn't a happy camper that I wouldn't let her play outside.
As for me, I ran to the neighbors and got the beans she had last evening and coupled with what I picked, mom and I should have a couple canners full. Picked a few tomatoes last evening and watered some of the beans. I'm really glad I didn't get plants started for a fall harvest as watering constantly is getting to be a nuisance.
Today hubby is going to take kiddo and I to my parents before he goes to work. We'll work on beans and hopefully Mom will have some creative ideas for getting the meds in kiddo.

Mom will have some creative ideas for getting the meds in kiddo. I had that problem with my two year old (now 41) when I was desperate to get antibiotics down her to prevent hospitalization. Also "wore the pink". Resorted to mixing it with chocolate syrup, which seems to be able to blot out the taste of anything else. No problems after that. Worked for all my kids growing up.

Light at the end of the tunnel! Negative for Covid, using a 2 yr expired test. So I high tailed it to town early before the heat revved up. Only went to Walmart. I did pick up a new Covid test and will do that tomorrow just to be sure. I read on CBS that a new round of free tests will be available to order later in September. On the way out I saw garden items on clearance. ProMix Premium Organic Garden Mix, 2 cf compressed bag, this one is yellow. Never seen it before. $5.00 each. I did look it up and found at Home Depot for $20.97. I got 6, pkg says it's good for seed starting, so I ran with that. Amazing the energy I got at just the thought of NO COVID. Broke down and watered the garden some late this afternoon, mainly broccoli and beets, the rest is on it's own.

Started the morning by going out for breakfast (a rarity for us). The kitchen floor was not to be walked on for at least 24-36 hours after oiling the floor boards yesterday, completing the floor renovation. We managed to pull some things from the kitchen into a cooler, for snacks and salads but won't be cooking a meal until Monday AM. The floor looks gorgeous- with lots of character and soul that only 70+year old boards can express.
Then we spent the day outside, weeding and cutting the native grass. One more section to go in our private garden/outdoor "room"- hopefully tomorrow, if the weather cooperates (it's currently raining). Ended the day by hosting our weekly neighborhood gathering. Ate a big salad for dinner

Had another goof off day yesterday. It was too hot to do anything, so took the grandkids to my sister's for a day of swimming. Younger sister showed up, which was nice. Don't see her often enough. She's still working, so her weekends are precious to her. Everyone was pooped from a day in the pool so after dropping kids home, hubby and I sat on the deck with rum drinks and a fan blowing on us and enjoyed the silence.

Mumsey, last year is the first time I noticed the organic ProMix. You definitely found a bargain as I paid $6-7 for what I bought on clearance last year. I bought both the yellow and red bags. This year the clearance price is $10-11. Thankfully I still have some left over.

Yesterday mom and I canned 18 pints of beans. There were enough for two more jars but we decided to go ahead and cook them for dinner. It was hot, hot, hot and one of the few times a visit didn't involve a walk to the garden. Mom had some Sunny D and that has been the key to getting kiddo's antibiotic in her. Cutting the dosage but giving it more often which equals out at the end of the day.
I decided I would work in the garden until it got hot and cut down the lamb's quarters as they are starting to bud and I don't want thousands of them next year. Chopped up the tender stems an leaves and used it to mulch the corn. Went inside for lunch and retreated into the shade to sort out and mark the parts of the Harbor Freight greenhouse. I made a copy of the manual and have it in a binder which came in extremely handy. Discovered that the original owner evidently had it attached to the base backwards which could be why it went airborne. A few parts to fix and one bracket missing but I can easily duplicate it. One brace is pretty much toast as the end is bent into a J-shape and I seriously doubt I can straighten it. I'll start pricing aluminum at Lowes but I'm okay with a wooden brace too. I don't plan to assemble it until early spring next year but will probably work on preparing the base this fall and winter.
