I wear contacts but needed new glasses. My old glasses were probably 10 years old too. Holy Moley!!, for a pair of glasses I only wear occasionally. I got mine at JC Penny. They serve the purpose.

Nice light all-day on-&-off blessed rain here today, so just indoor puttering. Did notice my pre-sprouted okra seeds pushing up, as well as a couple of nice ripe "Lemon Boy" maters ready to pick.

Stabbed my left hand with a knife.
I was making a new batch of Italian O&V salad dressing. I use a fancy red wine vinegar which comes in a ceramic jar with a cork top sealed by wax. I'm sure that it's more marketing ploy than anything, but it's good stuff which I've been using for years. The knife slipped as I was cutting the wax seal.
4 stitches in the web of my left hand.
Among the questions:
"Any thoughts of harming yourself?"
"No, despite the reason I'm here."

Among the questions: "Any thoughts of harming yourself?" Don't you love that question? Another favorite that I get all the time when in medical facilities: "Do you feel safe at home?" I'm never quite sure how to answer that one, especially if I'm where I am because I stupidly tripped & fell over something. I'm always threatening Mr. Breezy that the next time I get asked that I'm going to look nervously in his direction & then ask to speak to the questioner alone - lol. Only drawback to that one would be having to find a way home when the cops showed up to escort Mr. Breezy to the hoosegow.

"Any thoughts of harming yourself?" I did once respond with, "If I'm going to kill someone, it won't be me." I don't say things like that anymore.

I believe that it's a legitimate question, especially given my self-inflicted injury. It just kind of took me aback, as I wasn't expecting anything like it.
Before I retired a friend or family member would occasionally jokingly ask me, "If you tell me something, will you have to kill me?"
My response was always, "No, that's someone else's job."
That usually ended the conversation rather quickly, in sort of the same way. And they never asked again.

I agree that it is a legitimate question to ask. And a responsible one to ask. I am so grateful those questions are asked these days. When I had reconstructive eyelid surgery a few years ago, after a skin cancer was removed, I was black and blue. Looked like I had been punched in the face. Q and I stopped at a drug store to pick up some post op care items and, when checking out, the cashier quietly under her breath asked me if I was OK and did I need help. And just for another perspective... This is a very personal issue for me and an issue to be taken seriously. We've come a long way from the 60s and 70s when- as a young wife- I was battered by my then husband. I was finally able to call the cops for help and was asked "what did you do to provoke him?". It's important to ask if people feel safe. It might be the only opportunity they have to escape a bad situation. I love that we have evolved to the point that questions like these are routinely asked. And that a cashier cares enough to ask a stranger if she is safe. "Do you feel safe at home?" I'm never quite sure how to answer that one, Assure them that you are and thank them for their concern.

Still no rain, so every morning I water a few crops deeply and pray for rain. Did get the bottom leaves of the paste tomatoes pruned and weaved more twine around them and built a primitive trellis for some climbing beans. Kiddo's car seat needed a good scrubbing and I pulled the manual out to see how to convert it to booster only as I think we can trust her not to try and wiggle out of the seatbelt like she has on previous attempts. We have a small picnic to go to this evening so we'll give it a test run.
Trying to catch up on a few things in the house to avoid the heat. Laundry is finally caught up and I used a mortar and pestle to grind my dehydrated garlic into powder while watching a movie yesterday. Holding off on transplanting any strawberries because its too dry and they will bake in their new home.

When I worked at the Ob/Gyn office, we had pamphlets in all our exam rooms with information for women to get help. I'm pretty sure we helped a few women. It was an all woman office, so there was a lot of women's intuition floating around. Well it's raining here again. emmsmommy,I wish I could send some your way. All this rain is not helping the blight that is starting to really spread on my tomato plants. Today is probably going to be an inside day since the heat, rain and mosquitos make it impossible to be outside for any amount of time. Supposed to cool off by Wednesday.

Hacked some weeds which I let grow for far too long. The humidity wasn't as bad as I expected at 6am.
Pulled some romaine that I've been plucking as they appeared to be about to bolt, even with the shade cloth.
Put the shade cloth back over the hoops.
AND - I made a new batch of Caesar salad dressing for the romaine, and no medical procedures were required, either amateur or professional. I didn't smash a finger in the mortar and pestle and didn't shave any skin with the grater. Admittedly, no fancy bottle top removals were required, but I feel like I might be growing up, maybe about on par with my 11 year old grandson, who is getting more and more free rein (and chores) from his dad to DIY.

Watered. What else? Also harvested some maters - more "Lemon Boy", "Fantastico", "Sun Sugar", & a mislabeled mystery paste type which I suspect is "San Marzano". I also noticed two "Ichiban-type" eggplants ready for picking.

Went to a native plant nursery in Patagonia AZ yesterday. Picked up a small ocotillo, a couple local perennial forbs and a packet of Sonoran wildflower seeds. Dropped by my local nursery and picked up an Ancho, chives, and oregano. Planted the herbs in an Earth-Box along with a couple marigolds. Watered everything in the early morning today even though thunderstorms were predicted for later.

Went early for walk yesterday, 0520. Barely light but 79* and sauna humid. Went only a mile. Came home and tackled the vacuuming. Got entries ready for the fair, a quilt and 2 totes. Will also do a flower arrangement later today and deliver it all in the a.m.
Last evening we had a torrential rain event, 2" in 90 minutes. Severe weather with high winds are predicted for later today with a certainty.
Picked a few beans yesterday. And first tomato, Pink Oxheart. Really early for those.

I didn't realize taking a pizza box out to the garbage bin could be such an adventure. This past weekend was our niece's annual garage sale, a major family and neighborhood event, so we spent much time there and tended to the garden early and late. Papa John's is on the way back from her house, I've been bombarded lately with their commercials while binge-watching 9-1-1 and developed a craving for pizza with garlic sauce. Long story short, pizza is gone and the box needs to be. I took it out, saw a few critters flying around, and waved them off with the box. I opened the bin, tossed the box in, closed the lid, next thing I see is a wasp drop straight down about 16" and sting the back of my hand. First time stung by a wasp and it hurt - a lot! Not sure if it's some high-venom variety, but my hand swelled quite a bit and is still swollen this morning, still a bit of pain. Is this normal? Maybe I am overly sensitive to wasp venom. Bee and hornet stings are more of a nuisance but this is something I will remember for a while.
